I’m a little hazy on my history. Could you remind me which country is responsible for the way Japan has turned out since the end of WWII?

Primarily, Japan.

Shall we now start on the discussion of per-capita rapes in advanced nations? Ready whenever you are. I will be happy to provide those statistics.

Yeah that robust Japanese representative democracy was working just fine up to the point the armistice was signed on the U.S.S. Missouri - just ask all the friends the Japanese made in places like Nanking and the Philippines and Korea.

Do you really want to get into the issue of rapes. I would think that an advocate for the relative goodness of Japan would want to avoid that subject - particularly given all of the mischief that was carried out under the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere.

I am more than happy to discuss and argue with you 1937. Perfectly happy to. In fact you can avail yourself of my writings on Free Republic about fascist pre-war/WWII Japan and its rebirth. But if we talk 1937, or we talk rapes, we are also going to talk 2009 and worldwide statistics on rape as well, and the United State’s standing in those statistics. Which one shall we start with? 1937? 2009! Either one is fine with me. Your move.

Certainly the Japanese were very fortunate that we occupied Japan after the war and not the Russians , and that the USA had open markets in which they could sell all their automobiles , electronics , etc.

The Japanese deserve some credit , too , though . In a lot of cases from the 70’s on they made superior products for the same price or less than a similar US-made product . And we lapped them up bigtime ( Sony ; Toyota ; Yamaha ; Mitsubishi ; etc...) . To my knowledge nobody forced us to purchase their stuff and make them rich in the process . They are a hard working people who are so meticulous , and it paid off for them . Sure , the government subsidized a lot of companies , which helped them gain control of some markets , but the fact remains they manufactured superior products overall , and the prices were great . That’s why we bought them . Now China - our communist enemy is Asia - is getting rich thanks to America and Walmart , and Americans’ almost fanatical penchant for getting stuff as cheaply as possible and not giving a tinker’s cuss ( Brit. slang for not giving a sh*t ) from whence it came . At least the Japanese are our ally now , and have been a loyal one since 1945 . Can’t be said for China now can it ?

“The American Indians/Native Americans or those subjected to the peculiar institution of American Slavery...”

As if the Hopi, Navajo, Lakota, Comanche, Mohawk, Seminole, etc. lived in peaceful coexistence. Talk about slavery.

“Jim Crow are fire hoses/police dogs after that in the past might have some viewpoints as well on historic realities. None of these can be denied or covered up.”

I haven’t read any posts on this thread which would even allude to dismissing such events in history. But lest we forget, Oprah Winfrey is the richest self made black women in history. Will Smith is the highest paid actor in the world. Michael Jordon didn’t do too bad, not to mention Condeleeza Rice and Obama

I don’t ever recall hearing about any black leaders in the history of in such countries as Germany, Japan, France, Sweden, Ireland, etc.

Well, given the black population in France, one would expect to see more representatives of color.

Now, I’ll bet my money that Austria and Germany will elect a black leader when pigs start buzzing my house. :^)

You say, “no argument there!”, but what I want to know is where are the grammar police?! Where are the self-appointed Syntax Cops, spell checkers, Grammar Gestapo?! I used “have” FIVE times in ONE sentence and no one said diddly squat!

The Admin. Mod. must be notified ASAP!

"too obese"

Visit the British Isles some day, and make your own assessment. I've visited both the U.K. and Ireland in the past three years, and while we're still ahead in lard content, those countries appear to be catching up fast.

That’s probably true, unfortunately the world (and me) is getting fatter (So much for Malthus and Erlich) - I don’t think its a good development, and neither do I think it’s the government’s business.

So many of these problems would be eliminated if people were left to face the consequences of their actions. And if there’s going to be anyone to soften the consequences, it should be voluntary - through the compassion residing within each one of us.
