I'm going to be doing the same soon. In fact, I just ordered a bluetooth device that allows me to use my old landline phones over my cell phone line so I still have the convenience of a phone large enough to rest on my shoulder while I'm doing things around the house. For the amount that I use the phone, this should work well.
All through the 70s and into the 80s I traveled about the West and South on rat bikes that broke down or just broke occasionally and “stranded” me. I don’t think I ever wished I had a phone.
On average we used to spend $70 per month just to use the dsl.. Now that AT&T has an dsl only option, we got rid of the landline pronto....
I’ve got internet through cable - very fast.
We had a deal - phone, cable, and high-speed internet for $100 per month but my year’s up and the price jumped about $35 so I’m dropping the phone. I may drop the cable and grow with a dish as well, but that depends on what kind of price I can get and whether I can keep internet access without paying for cable as well.
I can’t say I’ve experienced any recriminations from not having my cell on. I don’t understand that. What would be the difference between not answering and not having a cell phone? Just tell people that you turned the phone off.
We have DSL and it is pretty fast. I really don’t see the need for land lines nowadays...
If this person has internet then a FEMTO cell would give them good coverage at home, wouldn’t it?
It’s hit and miss. Mostly it’s pretty good as long as you stick around the main highways. I am off the main raod a little ways, and have 4 bars. Anchorage recently went 3G not in Fairbanks yet.
