Common Sense Must be Dead

The environmental lobby is downright nutty out in California, as they have shut off the water wells for Farmers, all because of some idiotic fish. Congressman Devin Nunes (R) of the 21st congressional district in California has fought against this since it was enacted, pushing for legislation in Congress, which would turn the pumps back on, as with them off.....farms are drying up, a man made drought is occurring, and unemployment is through the roof.

I hate to say “if I were in their place”, because being there is differnet, but....

If I was about to lose everything I had because some govt. official turned off my water, I would gather my neighbors, go to the pumps on, and damn the consequences.

If I were Gov. I would let them know (at least through back channels) that I would pardon (within hours of the event) anyone that did this (as long as there was no violence.)

I believe the pumps are out in the Tracy area and are very secure. It’s not like you can just go and turn the water on. But I agree, they do need to be turned on.

I saw a bunch of the interviewed on Hannity along with a Republican congressman. He said he tried to get congress to create an exception in the law for these farmers, but could only get a handful of Dems interested.

He said Pelosi (who is from SF, not far from there) didn’t care. Literally didn’t care about it.

They are some mad farmers. Apparently, until this incident all Dems too. Of course, when you dance with the Devil you should know that eventually he will be after you.

“If I was about to lose everything I had because some govt. official”

All of us will soon be able to make that comment. Sad state this country is slowly becoming.

California is just plain gone to pot. Nothing they do seems to make any sense at all.

Common sense among our so-called 'representatives' dies a long time ago. Do you know what time it is? I do:

On August 9, 1932, the government decreed the death penalty for those convicted of ‘political’ murder. The next night a band of Nazis invaded the home of a Communist worker in the Silesian village of Potempa and stomped him to death, kicking his larynx to pieces. When the killer s were arrested, tried, and sentenced in accordance with the new law, Hitler responded with threats and demonstrations. On Sept. 2, the government gave its answer: the death sentences were commuted to life imprisonment. The killers were freed by Hitler next year.

The civilized men in the country did not know what to do. In the words of one historian, the moderates voiced desperate appeals to reason… [But] their techniques were distinctly out of tune with the wild emotionalism that seemed to have gripped a large part of the nation.

The civility cherished by the civilized men had finally been defeated by their ideas, although they did not know that this was the cause.

After years of preaching contradictions and of evading principles with an anti-ideological shrug, these men were astonished to see the nation conclude that man cannot live by principles, that reason is no guide to action, and that anything goes.

After years of institutionalizing interest-group warfare, which they had justified as sacrifice or collective service, these men were astonished to see hostile gangs take to the streets and demand one another’s sacrifice.

After years of undercutting the mind by preaching the primacy of gentle feeling (whether ‘progressive’, religious, or skeptical), these men were astonished to find that they had nothing more to say, and that there was no one left to listen.

The moderates were helpless. The authorities were helpless. The killers were taking over.

On January 30, 1933, after due attention to every requirement of German law and of the Weimar Constitution, Nazi rule was made official… It took six months for the Chancellor to transform the country into a totalitarian state.

Leonard Peikoff - The Ominous Parallels 1981

Six months. That's all it took then. The only thing holding these monsters back from a nightmare of atrocity and slaughter is the sure knowledge that a lot of us are well-armed, well trained and highly motivated.

Just got back from a trip where I had the opportunity to fly over a great deal of California.

Let me tell you a secret ~ there's a drought out there ~ a big one ~ and ALL the water resources are stretched thin. The lakes have all dropped.

The government decided that a choice had to be made between providing water for farming or water for drinking, and they chose drinking ~ doggone it.

If they'd decided to keep farming going full blast you wouldn't see $3.50 a pound tomatoes in San Diego (yup, saw that price). You wouldn't have seen any customers either. They'd had have to have had to ship the population out, maybe to Washington State where they have some water ~ let 'em live in tents until the rains return or the Colorado becomes a raging torrent.

One of the reasons the reservoirs are low is that they are releasing water to allow certain species of fish to have enough water to live. Here in the delta it’s the delta smelt. We actually had decent rainfall this year with accompanying snowpack.

You still depend on water resources OUTSIDE CALIFORNIA and those folks need the water which simply wasn't as plentiful as you imagine.

Regarding the "Delta" you get even a CAT 1 hurricane you're going to lose the whole thing and end up with 20 million people fleeing the state.

It's my understanding the state legislature was unable to deal with the problem for the 49th time since it was first defined.

Let me assure you again, there's a drought underway in California and it's huge.

This is another issue that is winning us converts. A lot of Democrats in that area, especially Hispanic ones, seem to eb realizing that it’s conservatives who are their friends and are trying to help them, while liberals only care about the fish — and they ultimately don’t really care about the fish either.

The people in "charge" have been ignoring California's water issues since they drained the Owen's River Valley....and Mulholland was in charge of the L.A. DWP.

They like our "rep's" in Washington ignore all problems...brushing them under the rug, because they refuse to make the hard choices....Only choosing to remain in "power"........It is THEY that have got into this mess....And it will be US...that get's us out.

>>You still depend on water resources OUTSIDE CALIFORNIA and those folks need the water which simply wasn't as plentiful as you imagine.

Agreed, there are too many people here and not enough water.

>>Regarding the "Delta" you get even a CAT 1 hurricane you're going to lose the whole thing and end up with 20 million people fleeing the state.

If we are talking about the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta...we have never had a hurricane here, CAT 1 or otherwise. We do get nasty storms from the Gulf of Alaska and the occasional "pineapple express" version, but no hurricanes. Ever.

>>Let me assure you again, there's a drought underway in California and it's huge.

Us locals see it as more of a "man made" drought. But you are correct in saying that there is a drought going on. We need many more storage reservoirs to catch the rainfall we do get.

Look up "List of California Hurricanes". Technically they're all Typhoons since they make their appearance in the Pacific, but there they are.

I recall my wife's family who've lived in California since the beginning of time all telling me repeatedly "There are no tornadoes in California". Then one day we are on the backporch watching THREE, not one, not two, but THREE tornadoes ripping ashore in Oceanside.

You can believe whatever you wish about California weather but until you've read the reports of the various explorers before 1775 or thereabouts I don't want to hear about it ~ just the facts man ~ you've had it good for a couple of centuries, but the NORMAL coastal weather is truly abominable and it's just a matter of time until California finds out about it.
