Barack Obama's holiday reading list rings false
Telegraph Blogs (U.K.) ^ | August 25, 2009 | Daniel Hannan

Nope, sorry, I don’t believe it. Barack Obama’s choice of holiday reading has been concocted by a spin-doctor. I mean, look at it: a heavyweight (and brilliant) biography of John Adams by David McCullough is set off by a goody-goody eco-book and three novels. All bases covered, then: brainy, but still a regular guy. Yeah, right.

It’s a pity, because when Obama gave his all-time favourite reading list during the campaign, it rang true. He even admitted to being inspired by Shakespeare’s tragedies (it would have been slightly creepy if a man of his intelligence didn’t revere our national poet or, worse, pretended not to). The only choice that came across as political rather than genuine was Hemingway’s For Whom the Bell Tolls, which was evidently selected to show that Obama was tough while still on the Left (see here).

Still, it would be nice if the forty-fourth president paused to consider the example of the second. The more I learn about John Adams, the more I like him.

I do not see Resident Soetoro reading anything about John Adams, or any other founder, for that matter.

I CAN see him rereading his dog-eared and highlighted copy of “What is to be done” by Vladimir Lenin.

THe Daily Beast reported today that Obama said 4 months ago that he had Friedman’s book on his nightstand for before bedtime reading. Even MSNBC was ripping him on the reading list this a.m., and implied either he was lying about it or was re-reading Friedman’s global warming screed again ( Hot, Flat And Crowded – Why We Need A Green Revolution And How It Can Renew America).

This guy is such a tool he thinks his friends in the MSM will not fact check anything he says. he continues to claim HR3200 does not provide federal money for abortions when even lefty factcheck.org says he is lying. The more he does this, the more the folks lose trust in him. Even the adoring press is tiring of his lies.

The only Friedman he should be reading is Milton Friedman, and fat chance of that happening.

Actually, I bet he doesn’t read much at all. Well, the teleprompter, obviously. I really see him as the sort who works at APPEARING smart, but really has no interest at all in actually BEING smart. No real curiosity. Just unbridled arrogance. The SRM painted this picture a while ago; they just had the wrong guy.

“THe Daily Beast reported today that Obama said 4 months ago that he had Friedman’s book on his nightstand for before bedtime reading.”

He’s either a pathetically slow reader or his reading list is just for show rather than an actual To Do list he expects to complete.

Neither of these would particularly surprise me.

sounds like pretty much every other two-bit devoid-of-conscience salesman you come across these days, the kind that don't care enough about anyone to even bother to lie convincingly.

that's a real sign of arrogance and disdain for others.

and he's "the leader of the free world."

we-are-so-screwed alert.

Didn’t Bill Clinton buy Monica Lewinski “Leaves of Grass” while vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard at a local bookstore? Should Barry buy Larry the same book in exchange for similar “services”?

Clearly he either never read “Atlas Shrugged”, or if he did, he didn’t understand it...

They did the same thing with Clinton. Always had to mention what book he was reading. I doubted he actually read any of them, that it was all for show.
