No, I'm not saying any such thing, in fact, just the opposite. What I'm saying is that I don't believe that either the governor or the state legislature will consider a vote for secession. In the 200+ years of our country's history, there have, for all intents and purposes, only been 2 major events that prompted us to take on the "ruling authority" - once in 1774 against King George and again in 1860 when the south seceeded from the union (as was their right!).

In the 100+ years since the end of the "Civil" War, we have become complacent as a nation, secure in our belief that our system of government would protect us. The reality is that our government has been corrupted and perverted by the people we elect to represent our interests today and now we have a situation in which the governed (us) are waking from our hero worship and realizing that our political system is no longer us working for us, it is them working against us.

I welcome the propect of overthrowing this government because I see it as the only way to reset things and get them back where they need to be. To expect one set of politicians, especially in this day and age, to vote to seceed from another set of politicians is unrealistic (and, I hope I'm wrong). Gov. Goodhair and the Texas Legislature would want to know what the upside of voting for secession would be for them. The political system today requires that there has to be a benefit for them if they are going to take this type of action against the federal body of politicians because, if we can vote to seceed from the Union on a political basis, we can also vote to disenfranchise ourselves from the politicians who voted for secession - ESPECIALLY if such a vote turns out badly for us. Therein lies the rub and the reason that I don't believe that there is any will in Austin to actually pursue secession.

Secession makes good, titillating conversation and headlines but, at the end of the day, I think it will take much more than the current level of outrages to actually move us to taking more definite action. On a personal level, I believe that those outrages are waiting in the wings, but they aren't here, yet!
