When Golda Meir Warned the World About Appeasing Terrorists

Trips to Israel have given me the impression that that Golda Meir is a bigger hero in the United States than in Israel. The reason is probably that in the 59 years since the War of Independence, the Yom Kippur War was the closest the Jewish State ever came to being destroyed.

One version of history suggests that Meir had pretty strong intelligence that it was about to be attacked, but instead of launching a preemptive attack like in 1967, she heeded US Secretary of State Henry Kissenger's warning not to attack first.

Many Israelis, including my friend Avi who was a tank commander in the Sinai, put the blame for Israel's near defeat during the first few days of the Yom Kippur war squarely on the shoulders of Ms Meir. My friend Chaim, who also served in that war, disagrees, he says that what today's Israel's leadership lacks today is a pair of brass "family jewels" like Golda had.

One day I would like to have my two friends in a room and hear them talk it out. But one thing the two would agree with is Golda did take a strong stance against terrorism. She was a strong advocate of not appeasing terrorists. If her advice was heeded, today's war against the terrorist tactics of fascist Islamism may not exist.

Below is one of the examples of Meir teaching the world about appeasing terrorists:

I do not read a lot of biographies, and certainly not many autobiographies.

I did read Golda Meir's though....,more than 30 years ago. She was a remarkable and outstanding woman.

Always like your postings. As an American Jew, I agree with you. Golda had a pair of Brass.

Last year Golda’s Balcony which was a one women play about the 1973 war was brought to KC. The actress playing Golda was great. Tova Feldsusch.

The show was about Golda’s role during the Yom Kipper war. The show was great and brought back great memories of a time of strong American Jewish / Israel pride in America. We need to get that swagger back.

But with the leftist American Jewish community, I don’t think that can ever happen again.

American Jews have fallen into a blind faith of following the Marxist Rat part and yes Nazi Germany can happen again in America as Americans have forgotten history.

I live by the slogan of NEVER AGAIN. but the mainstream Jewish community has forgotten.

They better wake up before its too late.

Anti-semitism is on the rise and the Socialist regime of Obama went defend the American Jew or Israel. Wait until he presides at the UN at the end of September and throws Israel in to the water as fishbait - CHUM for the Arab world.
