I’m expecting BOR to retire after the elections next year and then ... GB will move to his time slot. :)

Ted Baxter needs to move over to CNN, Fox could then give Glenn Beck his time slot and give Ann Coulter Beck’s current time slot. Win/win/win.

Don't say that. There's a mud head at MzNBC that now has to battle BOR and Beck.

Private insurers do deny people for bs reasons. I greatly think competition is needed, but I will say that I don’t think that ensures certain people coverage.

And yes, I don’t think Obama can live up to his words.

Ann Coulter ate his lunch !

O’Reilly has Multiple Personality Disorder. Today I’m a champion of the fiscally conservative. Tomorrow, I’m inviting Van Jones to give him a fair and balanced platform so the American people understand his worth.

Next week, I might give another interview to my friends on The View but only if they have Michelle Obama on too — she is such an inspiration !

Actually, I think O’Reilly is totally pissed, around the bend pissed, that Glenn Beck is also eating his lunch. He oozes snarky.

(Retire O’Reilly.)

Yes on the first, but I've thought of MsNBC from the Donahue era (Ms as in Miss, alternate Mz, as in can't decide).

I'm not sure if the network is androgynous, foolish or just kicking back and taking what they can get within the law?

In any case, I'll continue to use and think of the call letters to represent an Alan Alda: Ms (miss) NBC.

Yes, and if you ask for a home owners policy, while your house is ON FIRE, what would you expect?

I sell health insurance.

A HUGE number of the people who complain about “pre-existing conditions” denial of coverage are -—

DEAD BEATS who REFUSED to buy coverage, when they were HEALTHY!

I have a family memeber that was denied by two companies, even though she said that she would not use them for the services she required on that specific issue.

And sorry, she’s not a dead beat...she got laid off. I think it’s rather loose how you describe these people. Perhaps that’s true in some cases, but I think it’s rather cold to generalize like that.

And then there’s people like me —

We’ve paid for the best medical insurance for 20 years. Family plan, every month.

I’ve had a physical a year. Two children. Period. No surgery. No prescriptions. Nothing but a physical and natural birth.

So, to keep it all fair and balanced — I’ve probably paid, oh, $60,000.00 for me alone and got a lot of nothing albiet I didn’t need anything.

Good news though ! I have no pre-existing conditions so when I get a “condition” I can milk it - take my insurance company to the cleaners ! No, they’ll start to deny. They’ll look at their current balance statements, yesterday is gone and determine what and how they’re going to deny me.

Knock it off. You offer the service so surely you know that there will always be clients who are going to get more than their money’s worth but, then again, there are those who will always be in the black. And then they drop dead and your home free.

DISCLAIMER: I am not for government health care. But - don’t try to tell me that insurance agents and insurance company’s haven’t enjoyed a long term cash fest.

BS, give one example where an insurance company dropped someone simply because they needed expensive care. It's against the law for one and no company could survive if that is how they did business.

That’s not me. I’d LOVE to purchase health insurance, but because I have high blood pressure (completely contained with meds) NOT ONE COMPANY I applied to would sell me health insurance, not one single company.

That ain’t right...and as far as refusing to buy it, I had company health insurance until I was laid off, then paid $600/month for COBRA, which ran out, now I’m totally sol if I have a heart attack, cancer, severe injury, etc.

Our health insurance system is broke when a healthy guy of 50 with nothing medically wrong except for easily treatable high blood pressure CANNOT get one single company to sell him health insurance.

God help me, but I’m actually rooting for the Democrats on this one, God help me, I’ve never done that before...but something is wrong with a system that will not, or cannot, allow me to purchase health insurance.

More BS, both I and my wife have high blood pressure and take meds for it and lipitor as well. I was layed off in February and used COBRA until last month. I picked up catastrophic coverage health insurance that does not kick in until after $7500 for $545 a month, that is for both of us. You guys are so full of it. What your pissed about is that you have to pay anything at all.

Sure you make some points but you should check out Health Savings accts. Like you For years I paid thousands into Insurance and never went to the Doctor but at least with a Health Savings acct. Some of that money goes into your own Bank Acct. and if you take care of yourself you build a nice little savings there and at 65 use some of it for other things

Nearly every State in the Union has a “high risk pool” for people who have otherwise uninsurable conditions.
In fact, States tend to have EITHER the “high risk pool” subsidized by other insurance companies, and taxpayers, or they have a “guaranteed issue” basic policy that health insurance companies are required to issue -— AS LONG AS THERE IS NO GAP IN COVERAGE!

Now, before you or anyone else gets upset about the “coverage gap denial” issue, let us be clear:

MEDICARE does the SAME THING! If you do not accept Part B of Medicare, when it is first available to you (usually at age 65) You will pay a PENALTY of 10% per year for every year of uninsured but eligible time.

Same as for Part D drug coverage, but the penalty there is 1% per month of uninsured but eligible time.

Now, if you can prove “Creditable Coverage” then you can get out of these penalties, IMMEDIATELY upon termination of that coverage.

However, you might have to wait until the 1 January, of the FOLLOWING YEAR, for Part D coverage, or you might have to wait several months if you have no “credible coverage” before your Part B kicks in.

In other words, there are very, very few things that private, for profit insurance companies do, that the government does not do ALL THE TIME! (Such as DENY coverage or rate coverage or force a waiting period on coverage).

You did not do a very good job researching your options.

I have very little sympathy for you.

The State of Oregon has several options, and YOU decided NOT to take advantage of any of those options, it seems:

http://www.cbs.state.or.us/external/ins/news_releases/2008/120908-healthinsurance-jobloss.pdf

Oregon High Risk Pool:

http://www.omip.state.or.us/

Oregon High Risk Pool RATES:

You either do not know what you are talking about, or you want all of the rest of us to PAY for your needs.

I ALSO sell Medicare Advantage Insurance. Most of the (under age 65) people I see with pre-existing conditions are spouses of those who want to retire at Medicare age. Problem is, when someone goes to an individual plan from a group (employer's) plan, pre-existing conditions are excluded for a period of time.

If we decoupled individual and group insurance from State mandates, we all could save money on insurance premiums.

You, on the other hand, simply do not understand the PURPOSE of insurance.

Are you mad that you have not DIED yet, so now all of your LIFE INSURANCE PREMIUMS were “wasted”?

Cry me a river!

Thank your lucky stars that you did NOT get your money’s worth, of your insurance, at least, not yet. If your insurance pays off, it means something REALLY bad happened!

Grow up! You have insurance so that you can sleep at night, you have it for your peace of mind.

The purpose of health insurance is to protect your credit rating.

The purpose of health insurance is to help you avoid bankruptcy court.

If you have no wealth, if you have no money, you probably DO NOT NEED health insurance.

If you DO have money, or savings and investments:

THE PURPOSE OF HEALTH INSURANCE IS TO PROTECT WHAT YOU OWN!

You were responsible enough to obtain health insurance, but you are acting like a spoiled brat, when you feel that the premiums, over your lifetime, were somehow “wasted”!

I have several very sick clients who would LOVE to change places with you.

Again, cry me a river!

My insurance agent was the one who sent out all the applications, all of which were returned to me saying they don’t cover pre-existing conditions.

I’m on the waiting list for the Oregon Health Plan, but there were 200,000 more applicants than applied and I wasn’t chosen last year.

I have NO problem whatsoever paying for health insurance, shoot...I paid $600 a month on my COBRA until it expired, but I cannot get it...I applied to the Oregon health Plan, I wasn’t selected, they sent me another application last week, I applied again, hopefully I’ll get it.

I asked my agent about the High-Risk pool, he told me it is only for people with existing serious diseases, like AIDS or cancer. I am healthy, except for controlled high blood pressure, for which I’m taking Diovan.

I have tried for the last two years to get health insurance, my insurance agent (who died last week, sadly) busted his butt trying everything he knew, but I cannot get insurance from any carrier.

I am not ill, so I don’t apply for the high-risk pool, and the only option left for me is to hopefully be chosen for the Oregon Health Plan.

My girlfriend’s rates just went up one dollar, they sent her a letter saying that there’s a new tax to pay for adding more people to the Oregon health Plan, so they do plan on adding more people.

I even applied to be a research subject of some university who is doing a study on health insurance, they would provide medical care and study my progress (even though there’s nothing wrong with me!) but I wasn’t chosen for the full study, just for some study where I have to answer a bunch of questions and they send me a $5 bill!

Believe me, I have tried every avenue available to me...

Ed

The spouse will USUALLY qualify for COBRA, you might take a look at that option.

If the older member “robbed the cradle” this might not work, as Cobra won't last more than 36 months, but the Medicare eligible spouse should plan for retirement, accordingly, and wait until the younger member is closer to 65. BTW, should have pinged you on a few of my other posts, on this thread, sorry.

Your case is more of a damnation of government plans than it is a damnation of private insurance.

Oregon is MORE socialized than most states, and Oregon, obviously, is messing things up!

Also, the “High Risk Pool” generally does NOT care about the cause of your decline.

All you have to do, in most cases, is PROVE you were declined for health reasons.

And, from what you have stated, I can tell you many things, and be pretty sure of my facts.

First, the government is not going to be “warm and fuzzy” but you seem to prefer the government, over private insurance. Why is that?

Have you ever heard of “Medicaid Estate Recovery”?? Type in the name of your State, followed by that phrase, into your browser. The government goes after your kids to pay your bills, if you go on Medicaid and DIE! Is this the “warm and fuzzy” government you want to handle ALL Of us?

Next, your facts are simply wrong, in every State the person involved would have qualified for some form of Guaranteed Issue coverage.

Again, the PURPOSE of health insurance is to protect your credit score, to protect your wealth.

The government should NOT be paying for 100% of the smaller expenses of doctors visits and check ups, and neither should private insurance.

A high deductible insurance plan, with a Health Savings Account, is the best way to go for most people under 65 who do not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid.

For those who can not obtain standard coverage, due to pre-existing conditions, THERE ARE GUARANTEED ISSUE policies in nearly every State! Yes, they are expensive, but they can protect your wealth, if you HAVE wealth. If you have no savings or assets?

Go on Medicaid or go Bankrupt! There is no shame in that, as long as you or your friend did your best.

Why should the NATION go bankrupt trying to protect individuals from going bankrupt?

Oregon is very socialist.

I live in Grants Pass, southern Oregon, which is still pretty conservative and rural.

I could easily prove I was denied, as I have so many letters turning me down, but Chuck, my insurance agent who’s been handling my insurance and handling my applications, told me I needed a doctor’s diagnosis that I have a serious illness, like cancer, AIDS, heart disease, etc.

Chuck just died, so I have to find myself another insurance agent...I’ll ask him, when I find him, if I could join just on the basis of all my letters turning me down.
