Jewelry Store Owner Shoots Armed Robber in Self Defense

A Kenosha, WI jewelry store owner defended himself against a pair of armed and violent robbers. Police say that two robbers walked in to the Jewelry Exchange on Wednesday afternoon. One of the robbers pointed a gun at the store owner, threatening his life. The owner quickly grabbed his own defense gun from under a desk, and shot the robber in self defense. The wounded robber and his unwounded co-conspirator then fled, leaving the store owner unharmed. Police found a wounded suspect laying in the grass about a block away, and expect that suspect to live. Police are searching for the other robber.

Once again, guns are a valuable self defense tool. Unarmed individuals can suffer a terrible fate when a criminal robs them, even if they fully cooperate with the criminal’s demands. The same is true for those who try to run from the robber. Thankfully, this store owner was armed for self defense, enabling him to defend himself against a pair of violent criminals.

I would also note that here, like the overwhelming majority of self defense gun uses, neither the victim nor any innocent bystanders are harmed. Those opposed to gun rights like to suggest that armed citizens will mow down innocent bystanders while defending themselves from criminals. This is simply not the case. Instead, the statistics show that civilians who fire in self defense are 5.5 times less likely than the police to shoot the wrong person. In the late 1970s, there was an Italian soccer star named Luciano Re Cecconi. He was an Italian international and played for Lazio, a local Roman team. One of his buddies was shopping for an engagement for his girlfriend and Re Cecconi went with him and another Lazio player. Re Cecconi was a blue-eyed blond man from northern Italy. He figured everyone in the country knew who he was. When his two pals went into the jewelry store, he lagged back. He put his hand in his overcoat pocket and pretended to be pointing a pistol at the owner. The owner was not a soccer fan, and had been robbed twice at gunpoint. He reached for his own pistol and shot Re Cecconi and killed him instantly. The owner was not charged.
