In Charlie Gibson’s defense, it very well may be true he has not heard anything about ACORN before now.
Charlie can be extraordinarily ignorant of anything that somebody else has not typed out and placed before him. “News reader” is still a valid job description of what it is that Charlie does. He has not dug out a story on his own for YEARS, that is, if he ever did.
I am reminded of the Ted Knight character (Ted Baxter) on the old “Mary Tyler Moore Show”.
Baxter was such an idiot, yet so irresistable, because the character rang so TRUE. Like a well-cast bell. It was so good, that poor Tex Knight almost could not get any other kind of job as an actor.
ABC News anchor Charlie Gibson is a graduate of the Dan Rather Institute.
His thesis was “Only go after Republicans if you want to be a network anchor”
Katie Couric also attented and graduated cum laude!
This is an old liberal game; pretend the scandal (when it involves leftists) is not worth mentioning (the genesis of 'move on' during the Clinton sex scandal) and make light of it, usually with the same kind of phony 'laughter' and derision ("best left to the cables" - basically comparing cable news networks - specifically Fox News - to tabloid newspapers, i.e. trash.
It backfired. Gibson looked foolish trying to pretend he 'didn't know anything' about a major news story. It was obvious to everyone that he was lying. His attempt to dismiss the story as tabloid trash didn't work, either. The story was way too big and revolting to many Americans.
Charlie Gibson is retiring from ABC and so, his career cannot be harmed by this stupidity because it's already over. However, Gibson leaves the national scene tainted by his unfair, arrogant sneer of an interview with Sarah Palin last fall and now, his lame and ineffectual attempt to pretend that a major news story concerning a large left-wing organization receiving millions in government funds and associated with the leftist president Gibson clearly is trying to protect, is news to him, the anchorman for a major TV network. Charlie, you blew it, big-time.
My first thought when I heard that silly laugh was that he was channeling Hillary Clinton if you remember her little problem with unlikely laughing episodes.
Add that to Nancy Pelosi using the Hillary waterworks to avoid answering questions about verbal decency, and you suddenly have an entire lunatic fringe using Hillary as the role model. Too bad for them that she lost the primaries.
