In a new twist to the Washington arguments against questioning President Obama's birthplace, the senior senator from South Dakota says it just doesn't matter.

Ann Dunham and Barack Obama Jr.

In a letter responding to an inquiry from a constituent, Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., says Barack Obama "is a natural born citizen of the United States regardless of the location of his birth."

Doesn’t surprize me at all. Until I became “educated” by reading posts on this forum, I had always thought that the child of a U.S. citizen was eligible to run for POTUS...I think most folks think that. It wasn’t until I read explainations, thanks to posters here, about what “natural born” meant..and the origingal intent of the founders, that I became covinced POTUS Obama was a “citizen” but not a “natural born” one in the constitutional sense....because his father was not a U.S. citizen.

I was open to “education.” Many to most are not.

It matters if you are, in fact, an American!

...senior senator from South Dakota says it just doesn't matter... - You're right. 0 should have been disqualified based on his daddy's foreign citizenship, not on where he was born. NOW can we see the f**king birth certificate?

His defenders will sing a different tune once Zero becomes a political liability (around December 2010). Watch for this to suddenly become an issue in about a year or so.

I guess the law don’t matter either if we pound the crap out of this rogue congressman.

Civil society cannot survive if the rule of law is ignored.

Wow! Someone oews the “birthers” an apology!

This is like saying Bush never lied about WMDs, but even if he knew there were none and went in anyway it’s not a big deal. The analogy is not perfect for many reasons, but I fear far more misery and destruction in Obama’s America than in Iraq.

Flame away!

You're aware, of course, of the precedent set by Chester Arthur, whose father was an Irish citizen when the 21st President was born... Given that precedent, it seems highly unlikely that any authority would now decide that the son of a Kenyan or British citizen is ineligible now, assuming he actually was born in the US.

Someone breaking the law and not getting caught does NOT set precident. If so, then very few laws would be upheld. I’m surprised that anyone would any consider such sophistry.
