Female Navy SEALs? Only In Hollywood!
US Navy Seals Blog ^ | 10/2/2009 | USNavySeals

Posted on 10/02/2009 8:49:14 PM PDT by Saije

To day this day it stands true that there are no women in the Navy SEALs. This has been debated by many “equal rights” groups who claim that this is a sexist law. However, there has never been a woman who could pass the strenuous physical aspects of Navy SEAL training. In fact, there has never been a woman who has qualified to even be considered to enter BUD/S Training.

Though this is true of the United States Navy, it’s not true where film is concerned. Specifically for the 1997 Ridley Scott film G.I. Jane, wherein, Demi Moore plays a woman who is training to become the very first female Navy SEAL. The film portrays Demi Moore’s character as a very driven women who wants to make a bold statement that “women can do everything that a man can do”. This film was considered by many associated with the Navy SEALs to be very controversial.

Regardless of whether you support female Navy SEALs or not, the film G.I. Jane is an intriguing action/drama that comes off more like a political statement in the end. Even G.I. Jane herself begins to question her motives and whether or not she could successfully carry out missions just as well as the other physically fit men around her.

For now, female Navy SEALs are just a work of Hollywood magic and it is believed that in the near future there will be no female Navy SEALs. However, many are hopeful that this could change in the many years to come.

I didn't know this, I thought there were women SEALs. Kind of a surprise. If Demi could do it...

"However, there has never been a woman who could pass the strenuous physical aspects of Navy SEAL training."

...also true of some Army MOSs.

“Females can’t do the required pushups ... but that’s just for starters ....”

It’s kind of amazing though that there hasn’t been some huge push to create a different standard or something. I think in a lot of fire departments there is. Maybe not, but I thought I read that somewhere.

Probably there are women who could do the push-ups but couldn’t do a lot of the other stuff.

A lot of men can’t handle the training.

Lower the standards for anyone and you risk lives and national security.

Now there’s an idea, the SEALs could bring in some women who look like this to see how good the men are at avoiding distractions.

I was told by a friend of the feminine persuasion that the reason that there were no female seals is that they were too smart to jump out of speeding boats at 5o mph. And that they made better spies than men. She disappeared not long after getting a new job do something that she never did explained.

Are there female Green Berets? If so, that would just lower their value in my eyes. I’m sure there are female Rangers, right? Weenies!

yours is the simplest and best answer. if you can pass the test, fine. if not, go over there with all the men who also couldn’t do it.

“Probably there are women who could do the push-ups but couldn’t do a lot of the other stuff.”

Yes, many/most fire departments have lowered their standards. Women typically flunked based on physical requirements, esp. “unimportant things” like the ability to carry a heavy reel of hose. Luckily, those standards have been changed so that everyone can fully participate and Wonder Woman can wait for her nails to dry while your house burns down.

The only female special forces are those in comic books. Incidentally, female special agents can try to join the FBI Hostage Rescue Team—the official one—not the lesser FBI field office SWAT teams—but they always wash out—along with 75% of the men....the moment any woman’s standard is lowered because she wants to join special forces, all the men will lose respect for her, and wouldn’t want to be around her. They will always have doubt on whether or not she can handle it—and doubt just leads to dead American soldiers. Sure, they can do spying mostly as honey traps...

Most military men, otherwise rightly considered as highly competent, also do not meet minimum qualifications to be eligible to even apply for SEAL training, IIRC.
There is no implied shame to the vast majority of males in noting that particular fact. It's just a fact.
Given my imperfect understanding of potential SEAL missions...
I sincerely hope the standards are never lowered.

I am all for it without any gender norms. Compete on the same footing, LOL none would make it with out gender norming....Women do not belong it Seals or on submarines, for that matter, there is lots of things women can do in the military, if they can do it on equal footing with men, more power to um....This crap about not carrying the same weight as men is not competing on equal footing etc.

Same goes for police and fire....I sure wouldn't want some 110 pound female try to carry me out of a burning building and I am ??? pound female (exact weight not necessary, but its more than 110 pounds...

Some people are just stuck on stupid... I have watched some of these cop shows where the female cop gets pushed and swung around like a rag doll by some 200 pound felon.....I am not politically correct. just honest....

The 110 (or ???) lb karate kicking woman who incapacitates multiple male assailants is also a Hollywood fantasy and a good way for girls to wind up dead — men, too. If you want women to deal violence as efficiently as men, teach them to shoot and get them permits to carry.

There are women assigned to special forces groups as parachute riggers. They are not in the teams, or in the Ranger battalions (infantry branch)or Armor.

There are rather a few female pilots, and their skills are much appreciated.

“There are rather a few female pilots, and their skills are much appreciated.”

That raises a question in my mind. There are women flying fighters now, pulling high-g’s. I seem to recall it being said that the people with the best resistance to g-forces were people (guys) with short, thick necks. Now the word is long, thin necks (women). WTF ?

Other than that, fly-by-wire is a great equalizer.

The physical aspects to SEAL school training is in the extreme that no women can pass. They take their candidates to muscle failure and beyond and do it all over again and again. They’ll push you to exhaustion and then sit on your chest and do it some more.

That can't be stressed enough. The difference between the upper body strength between males and females isn't just a small, insignificant one. It's dramatic.

Women are dramatically weaker than men.

I've been watching females take the Army Physical Fitness test for nearly 20 years. Every one of them absolutely struggle with pushups. Most females can barely do 3 pushups, after that they start to really get sloppy.

Are there female Green Berets?

Only 1, Martha Raye

During the Vietnam War, she was made an honorary Green Beret because she visited United States Army Special Forces in Vietnam without fanfare, and she helped out when things got bad in Special Forces A-Camps. As a result, she came to be known affectionately by the Green Berets as "Colonel Maggie

Couldn't agree more! The Kutt Kickin' Chick, as I call it, has ruined more movies than I care to count.

Michelle Rogriguez in Resident Evil was the absolute worst example of it. A 5'3" 120 lb. female was the hardest, baddest MoFo on the whole assault team!

Kids are cute too - and in Hollywood land - they’re always smarter than the adults around them. How about a cute 10 year old Seal? Doesn’t a “can do attitude” make them just as capable of swimming a few miles carrying 100 pounds of explosives?

re #7: that's not funny. LOL

Interesting how pop culture's created this "Super Woman" image, stereotype. Some gals, particularly the young ones, have really bought into the ruse, too.

For example there were a couple lesbians who went into a honky tonk bar on a Friday night in a rough side of Champaign, IL. Started dancing, then kissing. The place being packed with rednecks naturally went ballistic.

One of the idiot rug-munchers challenged a redneck, invited 'em into the parking lot to "settle matters".
He went.

Minutes later an ambulance was called. A broken Lesbian. Missing *all* her front teeth, severe bruises etc. carried away on a stretcher.

Since the local rag caters to the Univ of IL crowd, the headline screamed outrage over this "attack".

Just the way things are in Champaign, IL. LOL

On a related note, standards are lowered for females for just the regular Army, so we don't even have to talk about SF or SEALS.

We've all been told for years that "females have to meet the same standards as males in the Armed Forces."

No way!

How many males can stay in the Army if they can only do 15 pushups to save their lives?

How many males can have hair down to their shoulders?

How many males can wear jewelry and makeup in uniform?

Women absolutely have lower and/or different standards than men in the military. Women have different standards for their uniform and appearance, physical fitness and grooming standards.

Whoever thinks that women must meet the EXACT standard than men in the military is kidding themselves.

Women tend to have better fine motion skills than men. fly by wire helps reduce muscle power required, but don’t make up for and even emphasize fine motor coordination.

Women’s use of both sides of their brain is an advantage. Men tend to do more processing on one side, then code it, then route it to the other side for more processing. Information and time is lost in the coding process.

Experience makes up for a lot of difference in natural skills. If you practice something 10,000 times, you get pretty good.

For crying out loud, they aren't Rangers or Special Forces, they pack parachutes for them or as you said merely assigned to them to do that service.
