I liked it very much.

However, it seemed strange without the foul language, “N” word, ghetto speak, gang banging, cop killing, sex, white hating, rape and riot stuff.

But then, those were the old days, long ago, back when there was REAL hope and change.

Try Brooke Benton and Dinah Washington “You got What It Takes”;
Also, Aaron Neville and Linda Ronstadt, “All I need to Know”;
Also, Nino Tempo and April Stevens, “Deep Purple”;
Also, Ray Charles, Betty Carter — “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”;
Also, Johnny Cash and June Carter, “Jackson”;
Also, Steve Lawrence and Eyde Gorme — “This Could be the Start of Something Big”.

Just a few for further consideration, with no disparagement of Satchmo and Ella, at all!

Love Ella! She could sing the phone book and it would sound great!

I know a few of those but Louis deep voice is so unique and Ella had the most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard, and that combination is absolutely amazing.

That would a cool subject to debate, best male/female duos.

Those are all good!!!

Brook Benton mentioned there - I just tried to post a thread about the death of Shelby Singleton, and couldn’t get it to work. (Shelby worked with Brook during his time at Mercury Records.) I did a search and couldn’t find anything about it - I enjoyed the Rusty Wier article today, well written, informative - but was surprised to find nothing about Shelby. Granted, not a household name, but what would music have been without him?

Brook Benton was ABSOLUTELY, BAR NONE, the crooner-man of all time. And it’s hard to get any slinkier than Dinah Washington! Thanks!

Ella is the greatest. She is my muse.

I was just listening to Cry me a River before I hit this thread.

I'd put Nat King Cole at the top of my list...and I'm a HUGE Sinatra fan. But NKC was absolutely amazing especially in his trio set-up.

"Stardust" is simply a brilliantly sung song. I happen to have a "dry" version without all the added echo/reverb on the final commercial version. It includes all the pre-singing studio chatter with the engineer and others. Best sonic version I've ever heard although not commercially available.

“That would a cool subject to debate, best male/female duos.”

There have been so many good ones. Perhaps the most interesting one I ever heard was B.B. King and Diane Schuur. It makes no sense on the surface. Black/white, blues/jazz, different generations. But when I heard it playing on the speakers in a restaurant, the only thing I really heard was MALE/FEMALE. He sounds so manly, and she sounds so feminine. Everything else disappears into the background.

“Nat and Frank are great fo’ sho’; but I’ve gotta stay with Brook Benton:”

I checked that out, it’s pretty good. For that same type of crooner, though, I would go for Arthur Prysock and Jerry Butler over Brook. Brook has a lot of great records, but he just seems so stiff.

I think he was supposed to be the younger generation’s Cole - he may have even written one of Nat’s later hits, but can’t remember the title at this moment.
