Blinn Colleges Cameron Newton completed nine of 11 passes for 177 yards and four touchdowns in the first quarter to set the stage for a 63-29 victory over No. 18 Trinity Valley Community College. The top ranked Bucs scored on every possession of the first quarter with Newton first hitting Grant Merritt for 37 yards. The Cardinals tied the game with an eight-yard pass from Garrett Beal to Darnell Williams. And Blinn quickly responded with Newton throwing a 40-yard touchdown pass to Dexter Ransom.
A blocked punt by Jerry Singleton led to a Sean Rutherford 31-yard reception to put the Bucs up 21-7. On the first play after the kickoff, the TVCC quarterback fumbled. Blinns Alex Elkins recovered and two plays later, Chad Froechtenicht caught a 24-yard touchdown pass as the quarter ended.
