Flu Dismissals

Sarah Carlsruh, October 15, 2009

The H1N1 virus, the “swine” flu, is an increasing concern with flu season here. According to an August 24th President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) Report, this flu strain in not necessarily “more deadly than other flue strains,” but it “is likely to infect more people than usual because it is a new strain against which few people have immunity.” PCAST predicts that the epidemic could infect 30-50% of the U.S. population, “with symptoms in approximately 20–40% of the population (60–120 million people), more than halaf of whom would seek medical attention,” causing a significant burden on hospitals.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) website says that it “may recommend preemptive [school] dismissals based on information that the outbreak is becoming more severe.” In a Category Two or Three pandemic, the CDC recommends school closures for up to four weeks, and in a Category Four or Five, it recommends up to 12 weeks of closures.

The Brookings Institution, a nonprofit think tank, released a study in September on the potential economic impacts of such school closures, as well as the possible strain on hospitals, specifically identifying the impact of a four week closure.

With regards to potential school closures, Brookings made the assumption that young children would need to be supervised, causing some adults to miss out on work in order to watch these children, thus negatively affecting work output. Using this as a measure, the study estimated that “closing schools in the United States for four weeks would reduce U.S. GDP [Gross Domestic Product] by between $10 and $47 billion dollars, a cost equivalent to 0.1% to 0.3% of 2008 U.S. GDP.”...

'cept no one is testing for this particular breed anymore (unless you get deathly ill) so all you have to do is sneeze....and you have H1N1 and an excuse to stay home.

Bet more folks CAUGHT this from the LIVE VACCINE which was sprayed all over the place than would have gotten it naturally.

Back in 1999 I got guillain barre syndrome after taking my first flu shot ever.

My son entered college in September and was told that he needed a flu shot....he told them NO....and explained why.

They accepted that answer for now....

No vaccines here either. I don't want to be injected with mercury, animal tissue, formaldehyde and aborted human babies.

One can also get GBS from after catching the flu, shot or no.

The risk is one case per million doses.

I'm sure you have a legitimate citation to support this claim. Could you provide a link to it?

Lots of kids have had H1N1 at my kid’s school. Out of 1200 kids, 200 were sick last week.

Vaccinations haven’t started in this area, so it isn’t from the vaccine.

1) The only flu that is out there right now is the H1N1. Seasonal flu is not here yet. (There is a reason it is called “seasonal”.

2) Vaccinations for the H1N1 are not available for the general public in most areas yet.

It doesn't require "faith." Anyone is free to do a peer-reviewed study that repudiates the statistics.

I'm sorry about your illness.

I hardly believe a million to one statistic. Statistics can be very misleading especially if someone is trying to hide something....

I have heard too many horror stories what with flu vaccines and the incredible amount of new cases of autism after kids get their childhood shots....

and now more from our friends in pharmaceuticals

Pfizer in 2009 agreed to pay $2.3 billion to settle civil and criminal allegations that it had illegally marketed four drugs: Bextra, Geodon, Zyvox, and Lyrica “with the intent to defraud or mislead” by promoting the drugs for non-approved uses; this marks Pfizer’s fourth such settlement in the previous decade. Pharmacia and Upjohn, a Pfizer subsidiary, agreed to plead guilty to violating the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act for illegal promotion of Bextra, a federal felony. The settlement is also the largest health care fraud settlement ever, and included the largest ever criminal penalty fine, $1.3 billion. Pfizer admitted it had illegally promoted the drugs and caused false claims to be submitted to Medicare and Medicaid for uses that were not approved by the Food and Drug Administration. In addition to the False Claims Act the Anti-Kickback Act [20] was invoked. Pfizer has entered a corporate integrity agreement and will be required to make substantial disclosures, on its website, about its activities, including payments to doctors. The settlement also addressed allegations that Pfizer paid bribes to health care providers as inducements to prescribe the four drugs. Six whistle-blowers will receive $102 million; one, John Kopchinski, a former sales representative, will receive $50 million..
