NY23 UPDATE: Why is Sarah MIA?
The Other Mccain ^ | Oct. 17, 2009 | R.S. McCain

Posted on 10/17/2009 6:24:51 PM PDT by Al B.

Sarah Palin could make a huge difference in the NY23 special election, and everybody knows it. I hinted at this earlier today -- "Lipstick, baby!" -- and as I like to remind my readers from time to time, there are no accidents.

Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman is in the fight of his life against the GOP establishment's hand-picked RINO, in a crucial election that Hoffman's media coordinator Rob Ryan says is "a referendum on the future of the Republican Party."

One point to make clear: No official in the Hoffman campaign has said a word to me about Sarah Palin. But some of Hoffman's supporters are heartbroken that Sarah -- whom I dubbed the "Sweetheart of the Heartland" last year -- hasn't joined the fight against Dede Scozzafava, whom Michelle Malkin has described as "ACORN-Friendly, Big Labor-Backing, Tax-and-Spend Radical in GOP Clothing." Allow me to address myself directly to Mrs. Palin:

Doug Hoffman is your kind of candidate, his supporters are your supporters, and the people at the RNC and the NRCC who are siding with Scozzafava . . . well, ask around, ma'am. Your enemies are Doug Hoffman's enemies.

The difference is that this is October 2009 and not October 2010 or October 2011. It is not imperative that Sarah Palin do anything now.

I don’t know and Stacy McCain in his article says no one from the Hoffman campaign has mentioned her.

How is this woman anywhere close to Reagan?
Do you think that Ronald Reagan under any circumstances would have resigned as Governor because the going got tough and in his first term as Sarah Palin did?
I like Gov. Palin but I don't see her as the solution or future right now.
I would have to see a lot more than I have to come to that conclusion.

Palin is no magic wand that can make anyone win. Just ask John McCain.

George Washington couldn't make McCain win.

I don't see anyone right now.
What I do see is a Congress and Government out of control and just maybe a total lost cause at this point.
More than enough blame to go around for the sorry state our country is in and I see little leadership.
Now Sen. Jim DeMint has been on the front line and I do like him and he may have possibilities, to early yet.
But frankly what I have not seen is enough concern about the economy and way too much hot air on Health Care Reform which I think just might be the last nail in the coffin financially. We can't afford it and and we can't continue with these massive deficits.
Where is the outrage, concern and a viable plan for the Economy by the Republicans???????
Where is the debate, well their isn't any and then what when it all comes crashing down?????????????

How is this woman anywhere close to Reagan?

By standing clear on principle and going over the heads of the media and directly to the people, she shares that trait with Reagan.

Do you think that Ronald Reagan under any circumstances would have resigned as Governor because the going got tough and in his first term as Sarah Palin did?

Reagan would have appreciated what Palin did. She resigned to put the state and the people ahead of the vicious politics of leftist bloggers and other operatives of Obama that were preventing her from doing her job.

I like Gov. Palin but I don't see her as the solution or future right now.

Right now, she is the ONLY Republican who is capable of fighting back against Obama's socialist agenda and one who is simultaneously outlining clear, no-compromise conservative goals. If you can find me another Republican - a Governor or ex-Governor - who is able to unite the grassroots and fight back against the Dems I'd be more than happy to support him too.

I would have to see a lot more than I have to come to that conclusion.

You should look no further than what Palin has accomplished since she resigned from office. Other politicians would have been forgotten by now, but what Palin has done is nothing short of a miracle.

I think it is very interesting to note the attitude the media takes to potential GOP candidates. In the case of McLame, they pushed him for years until they finally managed to get him nominated ... just by coincidence to run against their commie ...who badly needed a total loser to run against. The media gave Zero his victory by giving McLame (you know, the guy with “L O S E R” stamped on his forehead) the nomination. It was absolutely necessary for McLame to be nominated for Zero to triumph.

Now look at the media’s attitude toward Sarah Palin. They have gone 110% to destroy her as a political embryo. They fear her, that’s why they go nuts about her. Don’t write her off. The political Media-ometer is giving strong indications that she may be the one we need.

Could be the point spread is too close. If Sarah jumps in and splits the vote and a Dem gets in, she’ll be made to own it. If the Dem is running away with it, she could offer support to Hoffman to gauge her pull with voters without saying she impacted the race negatively. If it’s a case of Hoffman or the RINO and the Dem is trailing badly, she should consider throwing support Hoffman’s way.

I don't agree.
Your making way too many excuses.
She was the only positive in McCain's campaign but the more I look at her I am not sure.
She left office, got a very lucrative book deal, will be a demand on the talk circuit then what?
Is she actually going to run for President? Right now I don't think so.
Sure she might campaign some but so far as done very little.
I have to take a wait and see with her to see what she does and I do want to read her book to see what is there also.
But as far as being a female Ronald Reagan or a Lady Thatcher at this point she is neither and won't be.
Your like a lot of Conservatives right now looking for a leader and hope and right now the cupboard is bare.

The usual cop out answer. Don't throw rocks at Sarah then if you don't have anyone better to offer.

Ahh. Fair enough. Well it doesn’t look like it to me. She seems to be specifically trying (and imho succeeding) to make her voice heard on energy, healthcare and the economy, through a series of speeches. Hard to see someone who has no political ambitions doing that. Well, we’ll see. I’m looking forward to the book too.

Could be the point spread is too close.

What's caused all the ruckus the last few days is the latest poll in the district which shows the Dem at 33%, the RINO at 29% (and sinking), and the Conservative candidate (Hoffman) at 23% (and rising fast). The Repubs have the registration advantage in the district and voters are apparently finding ou that the RINO is more liberal than the Democrat.

The GOP panicked when they saw the poll and started pouring money into the race for the very liberal RINO.

That's the background to all this.

Your making way too many excuses.

My replies were not excuses.
They were actual facts.

She was the only positive in McCain's campaign but the more I look at her I am not sure.

You liked her then but somehow she's not likeable now, despite continued grassroots support and excellent post-resignation political commentary that has derailed the Marxist agenda to the contrary?

She left office

Stop seeing things through the MSM prism and go back and watch both her resignation and Governor's picnic speeches again. She outlines all the reasons why she stepped down, and it had nothing to do with her "not being able to take it" or "quitting." She was content to continue governing until Obama's goons exploited the state's tough ethics law and used it against her. Shouldn't you find it honorable that she stepped down for the good of the people rather than wasting taxpayer's money and the state's time fighting political matters?

got a very lucrative book deal

So what - the ethics violations hurt her financially and the MSM and two-party establishment smeared her so she has every right to tell her story.

will be a demand on the talk circuit then what? Is she actually going to run for President? Right now I don't think so.

We don't know what she's going to do. She's not a declared presidential candidate nor has she signaled any other intentions. Governor Palin is not a conventional politician.

Sure she might campaign some but so far as done very little.

She has done A LOT since her resignation.

I have to take a wait and see with her to see what she does and I do want to read her book to see what is there also.

You could have just mentioned this and spared the rest of your post. Nobody knows what Palin is going to do and it makes no sense to mindlessly repeat MSM talking points about her.

But as far as being a female Ronald Reagan or a Lady Thatcher at this point she is neither and won't be.

The parallels are there, even though her political background and knowledge of policy is far less than Reagan or Thatcher. When Reagan came of age in 1980, were conservatives then criticized for saying Reagan was a God and he's not going to be as good as Goldwater or Robert Taft?

Your like a lot of Conservatives right now looking for a leader and hope and right now the cupboard is bare.

Yes, I do see Governor Palin as a leader and yes I am pinning my hopes on her because she is the only Republican who is standing up to Obama, the media, and the elites in the GOP. If that makes me a Sarahbot so be it.

Good point. And, if Hoffman loses, “they” can’t try to pin the blame for it on Palin.
