I thought the only reason Bonaduce claimed to have stopped drinking and drugging was to get out of having to go back to prison.

I didn't even know (or care) that Behar had her own show.

What's up with Bonaduce? I know he's kind of nuts, but I thought he was a conservative...?

Good!
The more loony left crazies that Glenn Back drives to drinking, the better it's going to be for mankind.

I've seen that name, Joyce Behar, on threads around here from time to time but I'm still not sure what she is or what she does or where she came from. Is she, or was she, somebody? An actress or something? Anything?

Where did you hear THAT?! Not true at all! I caught his segment on Behar's show. He is so far out of the mainstream that I don't even think he realizes it. The stuff that falls out of his mouth is appalling.

No one causes you to start or stop drinking.

You make these decisions yourself.

If you let ~any~ outside influence decide for you, then ~any~ outside influence can undo that decision.

*You* decide, and God helps if you ask. Period. End of story.

I live it.

Bonadouchebag is full of crap.

Not that you asked for my opinion, but here it is anyway.

I believe that Danny B. is possessed of a nuanced schizophrenia that lends itself to blurting out whatever he perceives as sounding good at the moment.

He does this without having the slightest notion from whence these “opinions” emanate, nor does he understand their underlying reasons or values, or the political and social implications they entail.

In short, he just likes to hear himself talk. He doesn't care what it is he is saying, only that he is saying it.

Oh for crying out loud!

I used to listen to DB on his morning radio show here in LA, and always thought he must be an independent minded, freedom loving libertarian. As is Beck.

Sad to now see, Bonaduce’s just another hollywood commie.

Sigh.

What is it about Hollywood that turns people into bubbleheaded, whiney communists?

The drinking comment was not even the interesting thing on this show. Behar played a clip of Beck discussing the alleged WH war against FoxNews in which he referenced the Niemöller line "First they came for the Jews..." These people then discussed their shock at his demeaning of Jews. What does this have to do with the Jews? they said. And Bonaduce, in his post-synaptic wisdom, actually said that Beck was comparing the WH treatment of FoxNews with the holocaust. It is hard to believe these people were able to get their clothes on and get to the studio. Combined they cannot manage an IQ in whole numbers.

Haven’t heard of “rational recovery”. What many millions of us find to be the solution is the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. One day at a time, turn it over, surrender to the will of God. Don’t drink, get a sponsor, read the Big Book, go to meetings...simple as that.
Apparently Danny’s been too busy drinking and drugging to get that message: And I saw a nude picture of him once on Perez Hilton’s website(I know, I know). How shall I say this? Danny’s “limitations” are far greater than his being a lib or a drunk. What a pathetic man...and people listen to what he has to say because???

Haven’t heard of “rational recovery”.
Its been around for awhile; I remember seeing it doing 'survey' work over 10 years ago as I reseached alcoholism and other addictions on account of someone I knew who was probably a 'high functioning' alcoholic ...

BTW, I like ice cream; mild sugar high being part of it ...

The mind, will, and emotions of the soul are the behavior mechanism, until the spirit is awakened/quickened by God’s Holy Spirit. Then the alive spirit is director of the behavior mechanism, albeit there remains a ‘conflict of intertests’ with the Adamic nature.

Fox News has spawned an entire new industry:

Washed up actors/actresses having their own TV show stupidly talking about how stupid they think Fox News is.

BTW, did I mention it was stupid?

Yeah, it’s stupid.

And not in a good “Stupid dope” way.

I think she, Whoopi Goldberg and Rachael Maddow all have the same mother but different daddies. She and Whoopi hang out in plain view, while Maddow stays close to their brother, Keith Olberman, who also has a different daddy.

What many millions of us find to be the solution is the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. One day at a time, turn it over, surrender to the will of God. Don’t drink, get a sponsor, read the Big Book, go to meetings...simple as that.

Whatever you find that "works" for you is a better answer then continuing destructive behavior. I know the many find AA the answer, I do not for several reasons.

First and foremost is that it is open ended and suggests that you will "relapse" if you drop out of the program. Secondly, I find it counterproductive to hang around with ex-drunks and spend hours talking about "not drinking". It seems to me the talking about not drinking is dangerously close to focusing on alcohol and thus may well lead to a relapse. I prefer to look forward to a sober life rather then spend time dwelling on past mistakes. The third issue I have with AA is the almost universal belief that you will fall back on your old ways and that's OK with your "non-judgmental" group, they will help you get back on the wagon and so you go round and round with no end in sight. Lastly, AA is forced on people in the jail/prison system. Attendance at meetings becomes mandatory. Parolees are also forced into attending meetings as a condition of parole. When compulsion is used to force membership the prospects for success are slim. It is also unconstitutional (state established religion).

Rational recovery says you are in charge, you decide what you do with your life. If you decide to quit, you are finished with alcohol. I believe that there are more people who have successfully quit drinking by following these precepts then have by attending AA meetings.

RR used to have it's own book and support groups. Over time it became clear that if you were in fact in charge of your life you did not need all of the support mechanism. Today's RR has boiled down to a single question, are you in charge of your life? This is not for everybody, particularly people with a "victim" mentality as they might lack the cussed stubborn nature to prevail. That's it, I quit after three days of detox, I have never gone back.

Regards,
GtG

PS I quit smoking after thirty years of two pack a day. It took five days, I've not gone back on that either in twenty years.

PPS In addition to AA, here are a few more programs:
Relapse Prevention with REBT (Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy) F. Michler Bishop
Smart Recovery (Self Management and Recovery Training) Philip Tate & Vincent Fox
Rational Recovery (The Small Book) (The new Cure for Substance Addiction) Jack Trimpey
Sober for Good (New solutions for Drinking Problems) Anne M. Fletcher
If AA works for you, that's fine, but if you think there may be a better way by all means look into some of these alternatives.

Oh, and one more thing about AA(which has helped millions, including me): I’m not dissing it, just making an observation.
Especially here in the mountains, the meetings are attended by tree hugging, granola munching, arugala growing, Starbucks drinking, Oprah swooning, LIBS. Of course, that isn’t an official poll, in the absence of meetings being a political forum!! ..but coming early for 12 step gatherings presents the same danger as being at a Zero rally. That’s why I make it a point to be late.
Oh, and ditto for RE’s: Rabid Enviros, who frequent the local dog park with their rusted mazdas(S**t Happens and Obama on the same bumper is just too funny). Unfortunately, I had my new,American car keyed because of my coveted “Rush is Right” bumper sticker. Oh, but that I could catch the country hating, miserable Obamanot perp who did it....
No torture would be ruled out! :-)
