Eugene Robinson, of the Washington Post, is finally looking past Obamas skin color and his own. He wrote a piece being way too kind to Obama and naively surprised by his actions: President Obama's brief display of drive-by compassion Thursday in New Orleans was, for me, by far the worst outing of his presidency thus far -- and the biggest disappointment.
I covered Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath -- the flood in New Orleans that drowned a great city, the storm surge in Mississippi that erased whole communities, the devastation, the agony. For weeks afterwards, I had trouble sleeping. I couldn't forget the scenes I'd witnessed or the stories I'd heard.
More than a year later, I covered a Senate subcommittee hearing in New Orleans on the lagging reconstruction effort. I watched as a young senator who was thought to be considering a presidential run -- that would be Barack Obama -- used his Harvard Law skills to eviscerate Bush-era officials for not doing enough to rebuild and revive the Gulf Coast region.
There is a great quote buried in this article...which tells a magnificent lesson in civics: “I wish I could just write a check, Obama said. If that was his message, he should have stayed home. We now know that our government can make hundreds of billions of dollars available to irresponsible Wall Street institutions within a matter of days, if necessary.”
He is correct. The rush to save Wall Street and the bankers...was turbo powered. The rush to help the Gulf Coast (including Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama)...was a joke. The visit last week...just part of the same joke.
I was hoping the first Black(but he is realy half white) president be a great man but I dont see that happening
The magic has worn off the “negro”. /latimes
The Washington Post is also a disappointment.
Narcissists lack empathy. They are well versed in giving the illusion of caring, but actions reveal their true nature.
Me too, I keep thinking what a disappointment he is and that he didn't even earn or deserve the office he holds now.
The white half is holding him back
The white man ALWAYS holds the black man down.
Obama was destined for failure.
We just need a fully, 100% African to save us!
I think what happened in New Orleans was tragic.
There have been many natural disasters that have been handled on a state level, as they should be.
There has been massive amounts of federal funding before and after Katrina sent to Louisiana.
Louisiana has no leadership (Jindal is trying). It is time for them to pick themselves up and move on.
Nagin went to Cuba for training in “natural disaster recovery”. Give me a break..he could have gone to Mississippi or Texas or the Midwest or California.
But I do agree..the visit last week was a joke..a photo op.
If there ever is a chance for us to vote for another POTUS, it’ll be a LOOOONNNNNGGGG time before we go with another black man.
IT’S OBAMA’s FAULT!
I note from your about page that you attended the meeting arranged by Pete sessions. What is your reaction to sessions' role in the fiasco in the 23rd District in New York?
That being said, this is one hellacious nightmare...
He is as filthy as raw sewage, and as dangerous as a 4 year old controlling a Boeing 747 mid-flight.
Even some of the hardcore libs are starting to wake up to what an imposter Obama is.
But watch them all run out and vote for him again in three years.
But watch them all run out and vote for him again in three years
and if libs do not vote for 0, the dead will rise and help into office again
The state failed those people, not the federal government.
“..naively surprised by his actions: President Obama’s brief display of drive-by compassion “
But the Kenyan had a date to meet rich, white liberals in SF. What’s a messiah supposed to do?
Sessions- Big Disappointment.
Is there any possible way to immunize our representatives from the disease of liberalism that pervades the halls of Washington?
New Orleans was and is a cesspool. It was their own corruption that allowed the levees to be inadequate and they had known it for decades. Not a dime of my money, taxpayer money, should have been spent rebuilding it.
It was a dirty, disgusting, crime ridden, RAT infested city - a great city? ROTFLMAO.
