Christie leads ["Chris Christie leads Jon Corzine 47-41 in PPP's final poll"]
PPP ^ | November 1. 2009

Posted on 11/01/2009 8:19:45 PM PST by Jet Jaguar

Chris Christie leads Jon Corzine 47-41 in PPP's final poll of the New Jersey Governor's race, with Chris Daggett at 11%.

Corzine had pulled to within a point of Christie on our poll three weeks ago after trailing by as many as 14 points over the summer, but his momentum has stalled since then and Christie's built his lead back up to 4 points last week and now 6.

Christie's advantage is due largely to his support from independents and because he has Republicans more unified around him than the Democrats are around Corzine. Christie leads Corzine 52-29 with indies, as Daggett's support with that group has declined to 16%. Christie is getting 82% of Republicans to Corzine's 72% of Democrats.

As the campaign concludes it seems like Daggett's presence in the race has actually ended up hurting Corzine more than Christie, contrary to the earlier conventional wisdom. 45% of Daggett voters say the incumbent is their second choice to 36% for the challenger. Daggett's backers report having voted for Barack Obama by a 67-23 margin last year.

As is the case around the country this year enthusiasm is on the Republicans' side in New Jersey. 47% of Christie's supporters say they're 'very excited' about voting this fall to just 34% of Corzine's. The electorate is also likely to be more Republican leaning this year with likely voters reporting that they voted for Obama by a 54-43 margin in 2008, a spread narrower than the actual 57-42 result in the state.

In a finding symbolic of how unenthralled New Jersey voters were with their choices this year Christie is polling at 47% despite the fact that only 40% of voters think he made a strong case for why he should be elected Governor. Fully 27% of Christie's supporters don't feel he made the case for himself but Corzine's approval rating with that group of voters is only 3%, and those folks seem to have picked Christie as the lesser of two evils.

Corzine could still win with an exceptional Democratic turnout on Tuesday but there aren't a lot of factors in the race pointing to that as a strong possibility.

“those folks seem to have picked Christie as the lesser of two evils”

Actually we’ve picked Corzine as the evil of two lessers.

Tuesday is the day to say bye bye to Jon Corzine!

Would love to see Christi win, but Intrade shows Corzine has a 62 percent of winning , or perhaps stealing the election.

I’m feeling good about a trifecta on Tuesday (VA-NJ-NY23). You never know with Jersey though...they might “find” some Corzine ballots after the polls close.

Well, Intrade basically responds to the polls. these came out late. I suspect things will change tomorrow.

Also, intrade is mainly guessing, they don’t really know what’s going to happen. John McCain was at 1% on intrade in the fall of 2007 to win the nomination. Sarah Palin was around 0% on August 28th to be the VP nominee.

But if you do like them, they asay it’s only around 13% that health care will pass this year, which is a good thing.

Did you see bam and Corzine at that rally today? They looked like two punch drunk boxers holding each others’ arms in the air. Corzine looked afraid to let go. It was obscene.

Take that BACK. RIGHT NOW...or bite your typing fingers or something. If they steal this one, there will be hell to pay.

It’s time for Corzine to retire and enjoy the fruits of his “labor”. Somebody needs to tell him he can’t take it with him when that day comes.

Intrade is only a snapshot of public opinion on that particular day. It can’t predict the improbable.

Still, if you think Christie will indeed win on Tuesday, there is easy money to be made. $380 will get you $620 next Wednesday.

Figures that they are punch drunk.
They are both reeling under relentless attacks from fed up voters. Thing is, neither of them is going to do each other any good. Voters detest both. 0bama has no coattails for anyone to hand on to. He's been to NJ so many times and all Corzine has done is keep right where he was in the polls, with ni left to speak of.

Hope it rains on Tuesday

I don’t think the Libs are so enchanted with Corzine that they will want to get wet.

If the DemRat pollsters PPP has Christie ahead by 6, add 3 to 4 pts more; the Jersey fraudulent vote machine is going have to go into overdrive for Corzine.

I live in the only county in the state of WA where you can still VOTE at a polling place. I can actually SEE my ballot going into the box. I never thought that would be a rarity. Day after tomorrow, I'll be watching my ballot go into that box!

I have NOTHING against mail voting, except that I don't trust it. Absentee ballots are great for folks who truly can't make it to the polls. The problem is, it's turned into a "convenience" for too many. Look what the govt. has turned that "convenience" into.

If you can actually vote at a polling place, DO IT! This Nation was not founded on "convenience"!

The Blue Dogs in the House are going to feel the earthquake and Pelosi is going to see her healthcare bill go on the endangered species list.

Which means they'll put shamnesty at the top of the list, even ahead of health-scare or crap & raid. Not only does it mean more Slave Party customers, the uncertain numbers of illegals present an outstanding opportunity for vote fraud.
