A personal report.
Last night (Wednesday, 11/4/2009) I attended a discussion with former senator Tom Daschle, now advisor on health care to President Obama. The event was held at the Reagan Library in California. What was unique about this event was that the audience was largely comprised of insurance agents who market and service health insurance in California. Also represented at the event were the major insurance companies selling health insurance to Californians, Anthem Blue Cross, Aetna, Kaiser Permanente, Humana, Health Net and others.
I am sure that a transcript of the event will be made public, but in general the Senator was certain that the legislation would be passed before January. He also said when asked directly about the role insurance agents would play in the government plan is that they would be selling the government plan.
This got applause from some of the agents for this statement. He was knowledgeable about health insurance, but was selling the administration's line that Americans wanted something done about health care. The agents left the talk feeling somewhat mollified but I could not help but I think he was handing us all the rope to hang ourselves. The Agents were very polite. I have much stronger words to share about all this, but I think I'll wait for the transcript. Tom Daschle is a good salesman.

What was really unique about the event was that Tom Dasshole was able to get into and out of the Reagan Library without bursting into flames or being immediately struck (stricken?) by lightning.
Talk about "a whore in church"....
I'm going to visit again.

Personally, I wish they would bring everyone under Medicare. I would make a fortune selling Med Supps to all of my present clients.

A good agent will always land on their feet. It is more the thought that this bunch is ruining years worth of sales work and lining their pockets at the same time.
