Now that Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-Conn) has indicated he may vote against the Presidents health care legislation his Democratic colleagues in the Senate are contemplating how to persuade him to come back into line with the Democratic Partys position on the issue.
Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) warned Lieberman that bad things may happen to him if he cant fully support the Democratic Partys agenda. If hes raising supposed matters of conscience or placing his notion of duty to his constituents or the good of the nation ahead of loyalty to the Democratic Party, he should have to pay a price. Look, we have to draw the line somewhere if we hope to maintain control over policy.
Possible sanctions that could be imposed on Lieberman are said to include stripping him of his chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and rejecting any earmarks he submits.
He only has the chair of that committee by our permission, Harkins pointed out. And he cant expect to share in the distribution of pork-barrel spending if he wont vote with us on important issues. Senator Lieberman is risking a whole array of senatorial privileges that he seems to take for granted.

Gee ‘Rats, do you think that if you beat on Joe, he might not help Dodd get reelected?
You had me ABSOLUTELY going there for a second. As usual with this administration, the extreme satire is very plausible.
Now, someone who doesn’t read the tags in 3... 2... 1...
Somehow I don’t think that threatening Joe Lieberman would be a good idea. He’s already proven quite clearly that he is not afraid of bucking the Dem establishment.
Arrrgh... you did it to me again!
Your satire is too damn close to the truth!
They have more than him to worry about.
Well, well, well, now who is the narrowed minded and irrational party?!
...bad things may happen to him...”
Hey, Harkin, how does a nutbag like you get away with threatening people like this? Aren’t you a part of the understanding, compassionate, loving party of Dimocrats?
What a bunch of nuts your party has morphed into.
You almost got me again, but when I saw your name I went back and checked the key words again! LOL! Good one!
Joe isn’t going to lift a finger to get Dudd elected because Dudd worked to have Ned Lament replace Joe.
My be this is pay back for what they did to him in 2006 when they ran that commie scumbag against him. Lieberman was reelected with the Pubbie vote.
I think they are more mad at him for calling the shooting at Fort Hood a Terrorist Attack than what he is saying about the health bill.
Anything they try to do to him would obviously invoke this as a smoke screen.
Quote”Worst Terrorist Attack since 911” In other words, Obama has failed to keep us safe.
Lieberman...vote against the health care bill. Plain and simple. NO promises...nothing. Just do the right thing for God Almighty’s sake!!!
If hes raising supposed matters of conscience or placing his notion of duty to his constituents or the good of the nation ahead of loyalty to the Democratic Party, he should have to pay a price.
The Dems already endorsed Ned Lamont over Joe when he was narrowly defeated in a dem primary. Mr Harkin, why should Joe have ANY of this loyalty of which you speak?
>> Arrrgh... you did it to me again!
I’ll read the comments to find out if it’s worth reading the article.
Oh, to share the pork ... LOL.
Brazen to admit pork barrel spending, but Harken always has been a pig. Threatening that "bad things may happen to" Lieberman is a serious threat that should be sent to the Secret Service, just like a mob thug.
If you need help with the resume, page me....
D@mn it, John, you got me on this one.
EXCELLENT piece.
Cheers!
Last I checked he’s not a Democrat. Thank Kos for that. LOL
by all means, do....and he will become a Republican
Democrats: they're working overtime (even Saturday nights) to make mafia, MS-13, biker gangs, murderers and thieves seem like nicer people than them (also known as" the party of thugs" verified by Senator Harkin's warning above.
And they call us intollerant toward “Moderates”?
