Where would we be without veterans?
Did you ever think who would control the United States of America if it were not for the sacrifices made by our veterans?
Did you ever wonder how many gave their lives so we might have the freedoms we take for granted? Did you ever think about what country we would belong to without the veterans? Could it be Great Britain, Mexico, Spain, France, Germany, Japan or any nation that would conquer us?
When we read about any Memorial Day or Veterans Day, we should be thankful for the veterans. When we read the following list of the wars and the number of Americans who gave their lives for our freedom, we realize how much we owe to each of our veterans.
The following is a list of those who gave their lives for us:
Revolutionary War, 4,435; War of 1812, 2,260; Mexican War, 1,733; Civil War, 183,154; Spanish-American War, 385; World War I, 53,153; World War II, 292,131; Korean War, 33,651; Vietnam War, 47,369; Persian Gulf War, 148; Iraq, 4,351; Afghanistan, 883.
Additionally, an estimated 26,000 to 31,000 Confederate soldiers dies in Union prisons. If you are interested in the total of how many have given their lives for the United States, add the above figures. Don't be afraid of growing old, there are many who never had the privilege.
If not for Vets, we would today remember British Vets...
Odd little world we live in, no?
