Global Warming Emails May Have Come From Insider
Flopping Aces ^ | 11-21-09 | Curt

New information on the CRU emails, now it appears it may not be a hack but a insider:

The anonymous tipster, whom many people initially assumed had "hacked" into the computers at the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia (repeatedly called the "Hadley CRU," by mistake), might in fact be a CRU insider who released the files for his own reasons.

The user, known only as "FOIA" (which now appears to be a reference to the British equivalent of the US Freedom of Information Act), left only one comment on The Air Vent to announce his release of his 61-MB ZIP archive. He has never been heard from since, nor has anyone stepped forward claiming to be that person since the story became widely known.

Persons knowledgeable in information security hold that this is not the behavior of a hacker. A hacker normally boasts of his act, even if he were hired or otherwise suborned to commit his act by someone else. These two reports provide illustrations of such behavior.

Other commenters have observed that the very form and organization of the archive, which expands to 168 MB of text files, word-processing documents, PDF files, raw data, and even program code, indicate that someone already having access to the system logged in through his usual channels, made the archive, and then logged out. The user's choice of words indicate someone having a motive to disclose to the world certain activities and mindsets that the user found distasteful, at least.

This Examiner has been able to reconstruct a timeline of the story

Read the original article to see the timeline, it is quite damning evidence that this was no hacker, but an insider and it all boils down to:

What’s disgusting here, is that more emphasis is put on determining who leaked the material, than on the facts the material exposes.

The Best of Al Bore:

"The Polar Ice Cap Will Be GONE in 5 Years!"

Gore actually said that the Polar Ice Cap will be completely GONE in just 5 years! Right after he said that it was revealed that the ice cap had actually grown in size and thickness.

Click on the image below to see Al Gore claim that the ice cap will vanish in five years!

"The center of the Earth is millions of degrees..."

Click on the image above to see the idiot Gore proclaim that the center of the earth is millions of degrees.

This video link starts the video at the exact spot where he says it.

Yep, but the NYT made that harder to do yesterday by acknowledging that the hacked emails were legitimate.

You're right about that. If the leaked material were (say) secrets of the Bush administration; the left would be hailing the leaker as an heroic whistle-blower. If it was an inside job; I hope that the whistle blower was motivated by concerns about ethics & not by some petty office personality squabbles (although that might be one of the spins the warmists try to put on this).

The world owes the leaker a debt of gratitude, and possibly a lot more, should this information help stop the global warming scam. The leaker may have saved millions of lives while throwing a stumbling block in the way of tyranny. It remains to be seen how the state media will spin this, or bury it.

The ice cap isn't the ONLY thing that has grown in size and thickness. Look at fat Al.

We can force the MSM to acknowledge the information gleened by the hacking of the CRU by flooding the comment sections of MSM on-line web sites with info and challenges.

Reading some of the stupid comments in support of the global warming schmeckels, I found this typical liberal argument against ANYTHING:

I think the enthusiasm with which many of the AGW-sceptics have jumped on this hack tells us more about the sceptics than the scientists.

Alinsky must be so proud. If you're caught red-handed, desperately cling to mocking or scrutinizing the mental health of whoever caught you.

Of course not. And that's why I'm sitting in my swimsuit here in balmy Northern Illinois. Snow is just a vague memory anymore...

Do I really need the /s extension?

Now the question is: after ALBORE has declared the Earth to “millions of degrees” at it’s center, despite thousands of scientists that claim otherwise, What are we doing to heat up the Earth to this temp. at it’s core and how much can we tax people to stop it? (sarcasm alert aimed right at algore)

logged in through his usual channels, made the archive, and then logged out

I suspect that the archive was compiled by IT staff so that CRU could comply with the Freedom of Information request. Under UK law, such requests must be acted upon within 20 days. However, the Director of the CRU, Professor Phil Jones, decided to stonewall the request (evidence of this is prima facia, but also in the emails). Meanwhile, the zip file, titled "FOIA2009.zip" sat on the server until some winged warrior decided that it might better serve humanity if that file were copied to another server, the ftp site in Russia.

That was sheer luck!
I use "FireShot" to take screenshots in Firefox, and it renders Flash video after a delay... you never know what you are going to get... the first try, I got a black screen... then this gem!

Bravo for Fireshot! I couldn't have grabbed that frame if I tried!

****************************EXCERPT****************************

UPDATE: Real Climate explains that it is in fact much ado about nothing.

So by now everyone is aware of the emails leaked/hacked/TBD from CRU. While the significnace of these emails has yet to be determined, it seems that they are indeed real, based on these comments from Phil Jones of UEA, who is involved in many of the emails. Here is an interview just published by TGIF (PDF):
The internet is on fire this morning with confirmation computers at one of the world’s leading climate research centres were hacked, and the information released on the internet. A 62 megabyte zip file, containing around 160 megabytes of emails, pdfs and other documents, has been confirmed as genuine by the head of the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit, Dr Phil Jones.

In an exclusive interview with Investigate magazine’s TGIF Edition, Jones confirms his organization has been hacked, and the data flying all over the internet appears to have come from his organisation. “It was a hacker. We were aware of this about three or four days ago that someone had hacked into our system and taken and copied loads of data files and emails.”

“Have you alerted police?”

“Not yet. We were not aware of what had been taken.”

Jones says he was first tipped off to the security breach by colleagues at the website RealClimate.
“Real Climate were given information, but took it down off their site and told me they would send it across to me. They didn’t do that. I only found out it had been released five minutes ago.” The files were first released from a Russian fileserver site by an anonymous tipster calling him or herself “FOIA”, in an apparent reference to the US Freedom of Information Act. The zip file contains more than a thousand documents sitting in a “FOIA” directory, and it prompted speculation that the information may have been in the process of being compiled for consideration of an information act request.

Jones, however, says the files were not contained in a “FOIA” directory at the Climate Research Unit. “No. Whoever is responsible has done that themselves.” “I’m not sure what we’re going to do. I’ll have to talk to other people here. In fact, we were changing all our passwords overnight and I can’t get to my email, as I’ve just changed my password. I’ve gone into the Climate Audit website because I can’t get into my own email. “It’s completely illegal for somebody to hack into our system.”
While the significance of the emails has yet to be determined, there are some questions already being asked:
