We here at Grand Rants are frequently critical of the Presidents policies, and for good reason. We have also had occasion to pick on the First Lady as well. But when either one of them does things right, we like to point out those instances as well.
Last night, Michelle Obama appeared every inch a First Lady the entire country could applaud. No dowdy red-and-black disaster dress, no unflattering dear-Lord-what-the-heck-is-that-outfit? moment.
She was drop-dead gorgous...

Absolutely agree. Lovely.
Naw, it still needs a barf alert
Drop Dead Gorgeous???
Come on now. She finally dressed the part, but a fresh coat of paint on a rotten house makes it look good, it doesnt fix the problem.
Sorry, dressing her up doesn’t change a thing. She’s still a harridan.
NO way! She was showing too much skin.
I’d still prefer a little more substance. World leaders observed from his recent trips to Asia that there wasn’t a lot of substance to obama.
The catchy slogans don’t mean much to them.
Finally a great dress for her. I wonder if she got a new stylist?
Gigts (sic) and Loans to Nancy Reagan Stir I.R.S. Interest in High Fashion
Yep.
Someone took charge and made her look like a real First Lady.
Not bad.
I’m not talking about policy, or attitude, or anything else. Simply noting that for once, she actually looked like a First Lady should look: elegant, poised, and lovely.
Hate to have to say it but I agree. Astounding transformation. Will it last? I don’t think so. After all, they were both on stage last night and the world revolves around them so they believe everyone was watching and they put their best foot forward.
Agreed. However,I wonder if she was wearing her Air Jordans?
I give absolute kudos for the dress (when she’s STILL)....like I did last night. Then..this morning...I woke up to F&F and caught a glimpse of her ‘walking’ in it. A thing of beauty is wasted when it is put on a ‘clod’. She just doesn’t know how to carry herself. Someone in the WH seriously needs to teach her a lesson in ‘poise and grace’.
I grudgingly agree - she looked quite good.
RE: “appeared to be having a good time” - Maybe she recently upped her Prozac dosage.
That should have been her inauguration dress. It’s stunning. As opposed to the bed cover.
I thought the same thing, Crooked Constituent. The dress was beautiful - if you were going to the Oscars or a showbiz deal. Hosting a state dinner? Not so much.
I’m getting tired of seeing her bazooka arms.
I think Michelle must have a new fashion advisor. She’s looked downright presentable the last few days. Maybe she’s finally getting the message (or reading the Aunt Esther references on FR!).
So, you weren't ever proud of any First Lady? Really? You live in the same sad blame all your imagined problems on someone else world as MO of "For the first time in my life, I'm proud of my country" fame. So what, the dress for once was fine, but I don't judge a book by it's cover.
The dress was absolutely beautiful. That’s where the credit is due.
She is still unfortunately awkward, ungainly and homely. It’s really very sad.
I suspect the poster was referring to this First Lady, specifically, not all of them as a group.
Thank someone for coming to her rescue. I have previously stated that her clothes seemed to be the result of an adolescent buying binge on the taxpayers’ dime.
Perhaps her improved threads will bring our snarky threads to a halt. It hasn’t reflected well on our civility - but we FReepers have been pretty damn funny.
Poor Dems; M.O. is still not Jackie O.
“”She just doesnt know how to carry herself. Someone in the WH seriously needs to teach her a lesson in poise and grace””
Glad I missed that as her walk drives me crazy as does the oldest daughter’s....they all walk funky with the exception of the youngest daughter. Ever watch 0 come down the steps of AF One? Maybe he took ballet lessons with his buddy Rahm.
Yes, thank you, I was referring specifically to Michelle O, rather than all First Ladies.
And in case bgill didn’t get the joke, the “For the first time in my life...” comment was a little dig at Michelle O’s original comment.
Satan’s spawn is more like it. Evil is evil no matter what you put on it.
How much did *we* pay for our lovely dress?
With a staff of 22, and salaries totaling over $1.5 million per year, she better look good.
Here’s the inspiration for her gown (when I saw the photo, I instantly remembered I’d owned one similar, years ago):

But she forgot her trade-mark booby belt!
She must have finally fired that fashion consultant of hers. She looked very nice last night.
She looked ghetto glamorous. Vomit.
She was drop-dead gorgous...
Saying those words about michele is complete hogwash.
Lipstick on a pig, is still a pig.
Is that you Michelle?
The dress was lovely.
She should have chosen a more modest gown as befitting her position. In India, even a sleeveless dress is considered immodest.
Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.
She does look beautiful in that frock. I wish she’d take as much care in her day to day wardrobe. She can be attractive, if she puts her mind to it.
Your definition of drop-dead gorgeous is decidedly different than mine. While not terrible she certainly is not gorgeous at anytime, let alone drop-dead gorgeous. She was passable, better than most times she has been in public, but not gorgeous.
However, her appearance is really not that important. The fact is she is as evil as her husband and her past proves that point.
At no time have I ever seen a picture of Michelle Obama and thought “lovely” or “gorgeous”.
Her physical appearance aside, she is rotten and ugly on the inside which negates anything else...
Perhaps you’d like to see us all in burhkas?
She looked very nice. And, it’s nice to see a photo of her smiling.
Just what the heck do you mean?
Just what the heck do you mean?
Hate and bitterness are never attractive.
Oh, please....over the past year I feel like I have been forced to see every inch of this woman’s body. And yes, the dress was gorgeous, but it’s almost December, find something with sleeves.
Why shouldn't she be smiling, her husband is destroying America
But you and others go ahead admire her new clothes and appearance.
Agreed.
I’m not an expert on fashion but I’ve thought it is a good idea to dress up or down according to your guests. The Indian lady looked like a troll in comparison and Michelle should have dressed down a bit, as to not overshadow her so mightily.
I didn’t say she was drop dead gorgeous. The dress is stunning, but she looks like Professor Higgins got ahold of her for the ball.
"She should have chosen a more modest gown as befitting her position. In India, even a sleeveless dress is considered immodest."Point is, she isn't in India, and the style she wore was entirely appropriate for an important evening event in the United States. Had she been in India, something with sleeves would have been more appropos... but she wasn't in India.
Wow !!! I am impressed. The only improvement would have been to have had an equally sophisticated and elegant looking man beside her.
