Who Needs A License?
Anyone wishing to use the marks, logos and symbols of the USMC must obtain a license.
So, is every recruit going to have to apply before they can wear the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor?
Semper Fi,
“is the usmc killing off small businesses”
deleted/cache copy below...
Actually, wedo not “earn” the globe and anchor...as The Marines’ Hymn sez....we “claim” the title of United States Marines...
In fact, I do not recall the “earn” bs showing up till sometime in the late ‘60s; then it found its way into print somewhere...; and with the coming of the Internet—once algore invented it, and Gill Bates who got it off the ground for algore—then all hands started believing the whole thing and it’s now engraved in stone somewhere.
‘Taint so!
Just an aside comment for the boots.

Surprising!—and I am surprised that I can still be surprised!

Making this applicable to Marines—active, discharged, retired, reserve, etc,—gives the word “chickensh!t” a whole new meaning!!!!!
That is, Marines not engaged in commercial business....

everyone to their own kick...
the biggest sh!tty since the supersergeant patgrades of 1959-60!
I think once this thing sinks in, there’s going to be a much energized discussion on it.
According to this the DoD and the Corps has decided to trademark everything that has always been in public domain including the title of Marine!
Will they make folks remove tatoos with USMC or the MC emblem on them...
You got that right!
Ping.
Let them try. Phtttt!
What are they going to do about the marines etc who use the talents to make graphics???? Photos?? Come on! Leatherneck.com :(
Sounds like obambi is trying to handcuff US with rules of engagement against his baby killing family hating minions.
I’m changing my name to USMC SEMPER-FIDELIS MAC.
I swear this has a political stink rising from it. obambibots heard sooo many Marines hating obambi guts that they are trying to do something
Any mark, logo, symbol, nickname, letter(s), word(s) or combination of these that can be associated with the USMC qualifies as a trademark.
Who Needs A License?
Anyone wishing to use the marks, logos and symbols of the USMC must obtain a license.
What If You Do Not Get A License?
All products must be approved by the Marine Corps Trademark Licensing office. Failure to obtain a license or approval would be grounds for the seizure of all non-approved merchandise bearing USMC marks. It also could result in jail time and numerous fines if convicted.
Reckon I'll have to scrape the Hard Charger U.S.M.C. tattoo off my right bicep, or my arm will be seized.
I was under the impression that I earned a license for that tattoo at Parris Island.
What a shame—all the canellations on those personalized vehicle license plates, etc.

Dear Mr. Schuster, Thank you very much for your letter regarding the Marine Corps' Trademark Licensing Program, and its potential impact on items such as ...
Gunny G: Now, About All That Brouhaha Regarding The New USMC Trademark and Licensing Program...
For example:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2398969/posts
The above thread would show that many of us had read the new directive and understood the licensing requirements to pertain to both commercial and personal cases; Marines as well as merchants. I do recall mention of “DOD employees” being excluded, but no mention of anyone else specifically.
Myself, having read the new directive through on several occasions, my distinct impression was that Marines, former Marines, Retirees, etc. were not excluded from the licensing requirements. The directive may have been amended since I last read it, however I see no annotation on it that it has been updated or revised.
Now, I see that one of the FAQs (shown below) would apparently provide for exclusion of Marines, active, discharged, retired, etc. and their personal websites, for example; so long as the individual Marine was not engaged in commercial pursuits.
Hopefully, this is the case.

Can I create and sell products directly to Marine Corps members using the Marine Corps name and Eagle Globe and Anchor without a license agreement?
The commercial sale of Marine Corps products requires licensing. However; if you are a business owner, let’s say you a are custom t-shirt manufacturer and a servicemember approaches you about making 25 custom t-shirts for their unit. In this case you may create and sell to them the custom product they are requesting. However; if you are not licensed you may not advertise that you can create Marine Corps branded products. Only official USMC Licensees may advertise their Marine Corps branded products. Permission to create Marine Corps products is not given to the private business owner rather, Department of Defense employees, USMC veterans, retirees, active duty members and their immediate families have an implied license to use the Eagle, Globe and Anchor on personal products such as printed materials, literature, briefings, coins and web sites. These items must be intended for internal use and not for sale, advertising or potential endorsements. If you are at all confused regarding this matter please contact the Trademark Licensing Office.

Gunny G: Sounds Like Just Another Government Tax To Me
.

Sounds Like Just Another Government Tax To Me .
Looks like everybody wants to get into the act the taxing you racket, that is!
Now, merchants selling Armed Forces branded merchandise must obtain a license to do so and pay royalties to the military.
Sounds like just another tax to me.
We have already seen now that merchants will just hike up their prices to their customers/consumers to recover the additional cost of doing business.
Where will it end? Or will it end?
Reminds me of the tax collector in the old Popeye comic strip who roved around town imposing an impromptu tax on whomever, whatever people were doing at the time.
