Taking a Break from FR (Vanity)
12/05/09 | Me

Posted on 12/05/2009 2:02:24 PM PST by Awestruck

This is no emo swan song, so please don't take it as such.

I'm starting to see things in certain kinds of "conservatives" that I don't like.. things that the left is accusing us of turning into truths.. like knee jerk reactionism... like hate for the sake of hate...like judging people not on their character but on their appearance... like supporting the government even when its wrong as long as its Republicans running the farm.. like following straight party lines in all things... i.e. "republicans are always right, democrats are always wrong..".. I've done a lot of growing in the past 2 years.. and I've learned some things.. I understand more of the reasons why conservatives and christians tend to get villified.. its not our message that's wrong..its the way we spread it to others sometimes... My own philosophy is this: I am a Christian, who believes in the worthiness of innocent human life, minimal government, self sufficiency, strong penalties for strong crimes, legalizing drugs, gambling, and prostitution (which does not mean I support it but don't think they should be criminal activities), I believe in the importance of giving what we can to help our fellow man, I believe that the "justice system" in this country is flawed and broken, I believe that we should associate with all types of people, just as Jesus did, and not immediately judge people by what they look like, or what political or religious associations they hold, until they prove themselves unworthy of association. I don't believe that government should be involved in any way in ANY relationship issues between (and read this carefully) consenting adults. I am tired of dealing with curmudgeons who will not look at things in a practical, reasonable manner on here, but react straight from the gut level, without any real though associated with it, because that's what liberals do. So I'm taking a break. I'll be back when there's a political action issue that I feel I need to deal with, in the meantime, this is a good place for open debate, and information, and I would encourage others to try it out. But I'm too tired to fight right now.

Damn. That was the wussiest opus I’ve read.

I hear ya. I think you are doing the right thing. For you.

I too, get tired of certain repetitive themes, even if they are righteous...the birth certificate thing is probably the prime example. Because I think that it goes nowhere EVEN IF the claims and the implications are correct.

I get tired of the RINO-bashing but I also believe it is absolutely critical to understand that the appeasement of the reach-across-the-aisle crowd is a CERTAIN road to DISMAL FAILURE.

So I understand. Have a great Christmas!

I’m coming from a similar place but I keep coming here because it’s a good clearing house for news that would otherwise be scattered and difficult to find. And I too get tired of debating the protectionists, the borderline racists and real racists, the xenophobes, the populists, the statists, etc. Your problem is probably that you’re getting to involved. When in a debate, spend as little time as possible. Make your points and move on, when it gets to the point where the other guy is just repeating themselves and clearly not receptive, just stop.

“I’ll be back when there’s a political action issue that I feel I need to deal with...”

Don’t bother. If the current political action issues aren’t worthy of your attention, I can’t imagine what would be.

I can understand a person wanting to take a break. Everyone needs a vacation. But it’s not so nice to tinkle on the heads of rest of us as you go out the door. IMHO

Good luck with your solitude!

You've run through just about every insulting buzzword the opponents of Free Republic use. If this is how you feel then perhaps this isn't the place for you since you clearly don't have an accurate picture of it in your mind.

Statists?

And apparently incest doesn’t bother you, either.

You’re an odd fish.

I've never understood why, when someone is disgruntled, and is leaving FR, they feel the need to post that they will be leaving.

Go quietly into the night, and if you hadn't made a big deal out of it, no one would have known that you were gone.

If you find a home over at du or kos and decide to stay, good luck.

Where have you been, Republicans are hated on this board for selling out this country as much as any Democrat.

Yeah, we'll call you when all the heavy lifting and crying is over, and we've freed this country again, despite irritating and embarassing the hell out of our demonic, tyrannical opposition.

Or maybe we won't.
