I'm here to protect myself and I WILL DO it any way I have to.
What an incredible woman, my heart just broke for her after she killed him. One of the bad things about having the Pyrs locked up with the goats is that they couldn’t get to the guy, they would have made short work of him had they been able.
I live in a rural area in my county in OK, about 20 minutes is the wait time for police to arrive. We have county and city police, if you live outside of city limits it is county police that respond, I know of no neighbors in my area that do not own guns.
Oklahoma is big. There are lots of places that are not going to have a police officer within 20 miles or so.
People who believe that cops exist to protect them, are deluded. Cops exist to protect the interests of the state not the people. They protect the people the extent necessary to prevent them from stampeding or otherwise disturbing the existing order (and the revenues of the state).
When seconds count, help is only minutes away. Lock and load.
Bravo....
“
But the man trying to break in had other plans, he then
grabbed some patio furniture and broke the back door.
“
Never bring patio furniture to a shotgun fight.
“
I have not heard anyone ask why it took local LEO 10+ minutes to
arrive at the scene.
“
A number of other posters have given the best answer: rural areas.
Not that crime is rampant in rural OK. But it’s just that many Okies
keep what anti-gunners would call an arsenal at home/farm.
And they know how to use them.
Also Oklahoma has a “castle doctrine” that really backs up the homeowner
that uses deadly force when their house is broken into.
I’m now in Missouri and happy we now have “castle doctrine” as well.
One guy blew away two thugs that busted into his apartment maybe a
week after the law went into effect. Justificed shooting; no charges.
All killings need to be investigated or we could overlook cases of murder. It sucks that a criminal can put you into the position of being investigated, but that’s life. Better that than dead.
What we need are strong laws on the books positively protecting obvious cases of self-defense from actual prosecution. IOW, there needs to be strong evidence questioning the claim of self-defense before the shooter can even be arrested. If no such evidence is found, then there should be an official ruling of self-defense that legally protects the shooter from criminal or civil action.
It must've seemed like an eternity to her, and to be so isolated from the help she so desperately pleaded for. Thank goodness she had the means to and will to protect herself.
I prefer it as an alternative to "dead as a doornail".
Thanks for the explanation. That clears it up.
So much for the accusation that gun owners are trigger-happy vigilantes just looking for a chance to take potshots at someone. On the contrary, she hesitated until the very last second. I’m reminded of that Texas newscaster, killed in her own bed by an intruder. If only she had had the means to kill or halt the man who brutalized her.
Are you thinking of Ann Pressley (sp?)...that was here in Arkansas.
Yes, it was Anne Pressly. Even the murderer’s DNA found on the scene couldn’t trump his “retardation” defense, so he gets to live. Yet he wasn’t too retarded to target her neighborhood, break in, and literally beat her to a pulp. These monsters need to be just go ahead and be put out of their misery. I hope this woman in OK will see herself as someone other than a killer. Maybe she prevented herself or another woman from being brutalized.

Poor fellow! Did Donna ever consider maybe he just wanted to borrow a cup of sugar?
Did you listen to the audio? Wow, she is one tough, smart cookie. I know it’s got to be hard for her, but she did a wonderful job. Look how long it took the police!
