The New Testament begins its account of Mary's life with the visit of Gabriel the angel who was sent by God as His messenger. The Lord God had selected Mary to be mother of Jesus. The Bible records Mary's role in key events of the life of Jesus from his virgin birth to his crucifixion.

This Christmas, let us remember that we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ who came to earth as human child. It was Jesus who died for our sake and took our sins upon himself. He is the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings.

He was born of Mary—a servant of the Lord.

Well said.

I believe in the miracle of the virgin birth of Christ to a devout young Jewish woman named Mary. I do not believe that she was sinless (for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God...) but that she lived an exemplary life. Since Jesus had brothers and sisters and there is no mention of a second wife (not really uncommon in those days) she obviously fulfilled her wifely duties to Joseph, in keeping with the Torah.

A place of honor, yes; worship, no.

I believe this question is largely a Catholic one, given that they name saints. Since attributing miracles to someone has a lot to do with venerating them, as someone who gave a virgin birth to the son of God, I don’t see how Mary could NOT be considered a saint.

Mary did not suffer the penalty of Adam, her human body was assumed into heaven. She does not have special intercession, she is the Mother of God, created as the Immaculate Conception for the very purpose of carrying His Son.

These truths do not make her a saint, that is a separate thing altogether.

Sounds more like an alien than a human when you put it that way.

“A place of honor, yes; worship, no.”

Exactly right. We Catholics worship only God. We venerate the Saints, but do not worship them.

PS: miracles are not a requirement for sainthood. When the Church declares someone to be a Saint, she is declaring assurance that that person is in Heaven. Mary, as the mother of God, is believed to have been assumed into Heaven without suffering death. She is thus a Saint; no miracles are necessary. Christian martyrs are also granted sainthood without necessarily being assocuated with miracles.

Why not? Is it too hard to believe Mary was saved at her conception in order to be sinless and bear God?
She is The Immaculate Conception.
Can God lie in a sinful womb?
God has not limits, we humans like to put God in our world of knowledge and understanding, we cannot understand what we cannot understand or know.
I put no limits on God, I do not box him into my world. He is limitless, He is God.
The brothers and sisters of Jesus are near relatives, their language had no words for cousins, etc.
Mary would not have been given over to John, if their were other children. Read Jewish law and history for the order of caring for relatives.
I find none of this hard to believe or accept. Common gut reaction and feelings tell you God is Holy, God cannot lie and grow in a sinful womb. God came to earth, that is an amazing miracle, God saved Mary at conception, that is also a miracle.
God is without limits! I honor Mary, God honors Mary, why not I too?

Thank you, rose, you say it as well as it can be said. When the very concept of the Son of God being conceived without the act of intercourse is accepted by those of Christian faith, why is the notion that God would create the female He intends to carry His Son conceived without the penalty of Adam so unacceptable a belief? I cannot tell you the number of Roman Catholics, let alone Christians of other denominations, who misunderstand that it is MARY who is the Immaculate Conception and not Jesus.

As with so much of the whole, the adage still resounds: To those who do not believe, no explanation is possible. To those who do believe, no explanation is necessary.

Correct and I find it so hard to understand how people can believe God can grow in a sinful womb.
You know, Adam and Eve were created without sin, why is it so hard to believe Mary can be saved from sin.
The Bible speaks of Jesus as the new Adam, who is the new Eve?
Mary.
Mary is The Immaculate Conception!!!
God is Infinite, Limitless, He came to earth, He loves us.
My soul soars with tears, and wonder at the magnificence of what is and done for us. Words cannot do justice.

Mary, the Mother of God, needed Jesus as much as you or I. She needed salvation, as much as you or I. The Conception was described, The Holy Spirit overshadowed her. You provide the limitation you describe by saying that the Son of God CAN’T have been born from a sinful womb.

God can do as He wishes. Mary was a servant of the Lord, and needed the sacrifice of her son as much as anyone.

No, you do not understand Holiness, and Yes Mary was saved. She needed God for Salvation. God saved her at her conception.
Read Luke 1:46-55. She speaks of her soul magnifying the Lord. Her Spirit rejoices in God her savior.
He who is mighty has done great things for her, generations will call her blessed.
Mary is The Immaculate Conception, she bore God (Jesus) in her Immaculate womb.
The Bible says it all, you either accept it or not.
I accept it, I love my Lord God, my Savior and I love His Mother who bore him. She is my heavenly Mother, she is blessed.
