All I need to know right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVnRzn4rjbY&feature=related
The US is full of fools. Obama is going to divide the races moreso than ever.
How many years of study and dollars to pay for it did it take for this Shrink to regurgitate what any out of work street sweeper knows?
Dr Vaknin has written extensively about narcissism. (’narcissism’ a noun. Exaggerated self-admiration; exaggerated self-love
ok ok
I was assigned to the psych ward while in the Army due to civilian training. The psychiatrist Col. that was over us cut to the nib when assigning diagnosis: “He’s crazy.” Worked for me.
Man, this guy is the master of the obvious... anyone with a brain can tell Bambi has more screws loose than a Studebaker
I apologize for my cynical response. I have issues with “experts.”
Do you like banana splits? Merry Christmas!
The psychological condition of most people is their private concern. The exception of course being when it threatens my own or others safety. It is also a factor when confronting an opponent for it gives you insight that will let you a edge. His defeat in the next election is of interest to those who oppose his policies. Thanks for the interesting post.
Sam Vaknin is, himself, a malignant narcissist. On his website he details how his narcissism influenced and continues to influence his life. He notes that NPD is not curable - if it was simply insight into one’s own thoughts and behavior - he himself would be cured because he is a rarity in that he KNOWS he is a malignant narcissist and writes freely about how he views other people (’as appliances’) and how destructive he is.
Sam contributes to the well being of others by responding to people who write him and ask what they should do about a spouse who has NPD etc. (answer: either leave or plan to fight back with everything you have daily) He admits that he gives advice and help, not because he can feel anything for others (no compassion) but because it feeds his narcissism to ‘have all the answers’ etc. I really appreciate his writing - it has really helped me understand ‘problem people’ at work etc.
However - Sam is of course still human and therefore capable of error like the rest of us. I read something Sam wrote about Bush (that Bush is a pathological narcissist and, I believe, a sociopath) that I felt was unsupported. Part of Sam’s ‘diagnosis’ of Bush included the belief that Bush enjoyed having our soldiers killed in war (I am sorry I can’t recall accurately - something to the effect of relishing the glory of having the power to get people killed). Now, if I believed that Bush actually enjoyed the deaths of our soldiers then yes that would be proof that he was a sociopath but I never saw any evidence - quite the contrary - Bush met personally with the families of soldiers killed in action and I happen to ‘read’ Bush’s facial expressions and body language differently - I think Bush has compassion and didn’t want our soldiers killed; I see true grief and loss when Bush speaks of the sacrifices our soldiers make. I think BUsh loves the troops.
But Sam seems to be correct about Obama in that Obama’s actions (endless self reference, preening body language, omission of regard for others, assumption of greatness etc.) are more easily observed and do not require as much interpretation. Obama simply can’t have a conversation without refering proudly to his own life, thoughts etc. The likelihood that Obama has NPD is tragic, of course, for our country (I formally submit this statement for consideration of the ‘Understatement of 2009’ award) and is also tragic for his children because NPD parents are extremely damaging to their children.
According to snopes, he has a doctorate in philosophy from Pacific Western University, an unaccredited school.
Yes, I know that snopes is a husband-wife cabal of godless commies but this "analysis" is bogus.
Nah. They were even dumber than Scooby Doo, hard to believe as that is.
It’s very difficult to diagnose long distance and a number of people I know are hesitant to do so.
It is becoming clearer as the weeks progress that Obama is a narcissist. Clinton is too, but not to this extent.
Between Obama’s sense of entitlement and grandiosity, I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable labeling him.
There is also listening with a third ear or gut feeling and I do trust my own instincts when I say Obama is going to be hell on wheels when his narcissist rage surfaces. Any loss either in legislation or in the 2010 campaign and election will set him off. How Obama reacts to criticism from ANY person or venue is pretty scary.
IMHO the material on Sam’s website falls in line with the diagnostic criteria that psychologists use to determine if a person has NPD. In other words, Sam did his own research to understand a) How he ended up in jail and b) his own NPD and what it means and so he doesn’t stray much from standard psychology. His analysis offered above falls in line with others, including the video another poster linked, have said about Obama’s apparent narcissism
I feel like I am waiting for ‘the other shoe to drop’ in regards to Obama’s rage. I see it simmering as things don’t go his way. I’ve never encountered anyone who feels as entitled to worship as he does and expect I’ll never see anything like his rage when his current true believers abandon him. It makes me cringe to think of the rage he is going to ‘share’ with US.
Vaknin is not a psychologist. Vaknin, apparently, did not write this article but was rather referenced here.
Barack Obama is a narcissist
I believe most politicians have narcissistic markers to one degree or another.
Obama’s are just so very visible and very readable especially in his biographies. Who on earth with no great accomplishments to mention writes not one, but two grandiose biographies?
Vaknin is "certified" in Psychological Counseling Techniques by Brainbench.
