(Vanity) Comment on Northwest Airlines 253 self-igniter (father tried to warn the U.S. about him)

Imagine being at DHS or the US State Department and receiving a letter like this:

ATTENTION: Dear Sir/Madam in United States Department of Homeland Security,

Allow me to introduce myself.

I am Dr. Umaru Abdul Mutallab. I am the retired chairman of the First Bank of Nigeria. I have the courage to Crave indulgence for this important warning believing that you will never let me down or those travelers in your great country, especially to the City of Detroit, either now or in the future.

I am concerned very much over the welfare of my beloved son Mr.Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab, as I have the suspicious that he is in the entanglement of the dreaded extremist fundamentalist Al Qaeda network. It is one thing to be devout as everyone should strive to be. It is another to take up the cry to kill infidels all over the world.

This is the more troubling as my son has the prospects for a good career in Engineering, and is even in London studying for a job within this field. Perhaps the connection to engineering is what attracted the Al Qaeda to him as they felt he would attract less suspicion.

I do not understand, our family is very important and he has no need to carry on like William Ayers in the United States.

Please be aware of my son if he should fly to your country that I do not feel he should be flying in such bad company.

Most sincerely,

Dr. Umaru Abdul Mutallab

Anyone receiving a notification of this sort would likely either deep-six it thinking "Nigerian scam, I wonder when he's going to hit me up for a wire transfer" or "Duchy of Grand Fenwick" (The Mouse that Roared).

I feel for the guy, but it doesn't seem like anyone took him seriously in time.

This was on a plane: and the cry since 9-11 has been "Never Forget".

Given that the President (as of this writing) has not appeared on the teleprompter yet -- and sources say he was only informed of the event 3 hours after it ended --

it looks like some people in the Administration want VERY MUCH for us to forget.

Why?

I just looked up Bowery Boys.

I don't think I am -- I'm Irish Catholic.

Cheers!

I know your post was in jest (nice one btw) but let me clarify something. The father is an extremely famous man in West Africa, extremely wealthy and with a lot of connections. Furthermore, what he did is contact the USembassy in Nigeria, which knew who he was. He gave them the information, and why he felt it was pertinent. He also contacted the Nigerian government, which also took him seriously, and probably other Western governments (considering his son was not allowed to travel to Britain, the Brits took him seriously).

The man was not some nobody to be ignored. What happened is that Homeland security simy dropped the ball! They were given all the information, and somehow in transit it was not put into play. The US embassy in Nigeria took him very seriously due to who he was ...however back State side the HOmeland security people must have been caught napping

That is exactly my point.

I feel for the guy -- BECAUSE he is not a nobody, but influential.

But the "tolerant, diverse, understanding of other cultures" Administration -- led by a President with Kenyan blood, of all things -- BLEW HIM OFF.

See here for more.

Concentrate on the second sentence of the article.

Thanks for posting, I appreciate your further details.

Cheers!

And please to send me your social security number and your bank account number and you can have 10 million dollars....

Probably just thought it was more spam, coming from Nigeria and all. Some countries just need to have a big fence erected around them and be forgotten til the end of time. Nigeria is one of those countries.

Oh, and along with the fence, a telephone jammer and cut wires all around to the internet.
