HotAir.com undermines Tea Party movement, supports big GOP in Mass.

HotAir is a big voice in the conservative blogsophere and has done much to advance the cause of those wishing to stop and reverse the growth of a large central government. Unfortunately Hot Air's Ed Morrissey has brashly thrown his weight behind Scott Brown in the Massachusetts special election. This is disturbing and disheartening for every tea party, small government loving soul in America. While I certainly cannot blame casual Massachusetts Republicans for getting excited over Brown's possible win over Martha Coakley, it becomes much harder to justify it in the case of Ed whose life revolves around politics and whose message is fundamentally Jeffersonian.

In a piece called Where is the national GOP in the Massachusetts special election Ed shows his frustration over the apparent lack of support for Brown, correctly pointing out that in NY-23 the GOP heavily contributed to the liberal Dede while throwing Hoffman under the bus. While Brown is obviously no Dede he is a far cry from the mantra of HotAir: small government and fiscal responsibility. Oddly and most puzzling of all, Ed writes:

Scott Brown is about conservative as your going to get in Ma.He is a smart solid guy that certainley would be an asset to the US Senate. Just like liberals anywhere else in the country they have to tack to the right while campaigning.Scott Brown has to tack to the left to have a prayer in Ma.
Kind of like changing health care.Do it in small bites not change the whole system.Just like you can’t ask Scott Brown to be Barry Goldwater in Ma.
He has a great chance at winning the time is ripe.Heres his first tv campaign ad just out today.Keeep in mind this is Massachusetts.

If the tea party movement is about de-railing candidates like Brown, then count me OUT.

The tea-party movement isn't. There are the Ron Paul types who are trying to co-opt it to be their own, and all they care about is the politics, not the issues. They just want to break the two party system- the reason Paul endorsed Nader, McKinney, and Baldwin in the last election. It is all just a game to some of them.

There's a time to bitch, and a time to put one's money where their mouth is. Brown may not be the perfect 100% Conservative candidate, but I'll take a 90% Conservative over a 100% Bleeding Heart Liberal Socialist/Marxist/Commie Bastard any day of the week.

The time to have Tea Parties be active is at Primary time, to ensure that the best available conservative gets the GOP nomination. Once a reasonably conservative nominee has been selected, then it's time to get him elected.

If you can vote for Scott DO SO! It will break the filibuster proof Senate and cause the Health Care Bill to Die a well deserved death! (Plus send an earthquake through the ranks of the RATS when they lose one of their most RAT infested states.)

Scott Brown is our only choice if we want a chance to keep Coakley out. He at least has many more of my values although not completely conservative, I will take him.

I sent my son and all his friends out to the town hall today to get their absentee ballots to vote.

That puts at least 3 votes from my house for Scott Brown and I really don’t know how the other kids voted, but if my son had any say in the matter he would have promoted Brown for the win.

Good luck MA - next stop John Kerry (this man has to go)

Wish us luck.....

http://www.ontheissues.org/Domestic/Scott_Brown_Gun_Control.htm

Brown apparently wants to close the “gun show loophole” by requiring background checks on private sales.

BUT...

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2353670/posts

Coakley does not think 2A applies to the states at all,

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2416835/posts

and wishes to discourage “self help” among is citizens, commonly referred to as “self defense”, she was upset when a man used a handgun to stop a vicious knife attack, also wants to repeal DOMA, and on and on. She’s as bad as Kennedy, and may be listened to more than Kerry (she lies less than Kerry).

One of these two will be elected from MA in a few weeks. That is a certainty. We can’t change who’s on the ballot now, that’s a done deal.

We can support the less-than-perfect Brown, or allow the socialist gungrabber to win.

Imagine if Coakley was in the senate for as long as either Ted Kennedy or John Kerry?

According to his issues page, he is relatively pro-abortion, supports the democratic-party-modified Massachussets health care program and the idea that we all “deserve” health care coverage, is relatively pro-manmande global warming (although he opposes cap-and-trade).

In those ways, he is almost indistinguishable from the positions of Dede, who also was a fiscal conservative and strongly pro-2nd-amendment. The most obvious difference from DeDe is that he personally opposes gay marriage, although he supports each state making their own decisions on the matter.

It’s hard to tell whether he is all right on immigration. The things he actually says are “right”, but he doesn’t mention deporting illegals.

I wouldn’t oppose him because of these positions, since he is running in Massachusssetts. But I understand why conservatives wouldn’t support him, even though a 3rd-party candidate has absolutely no chance of winning.

“Abortion
While this decision should ultimately be made by the woman in consultation with her doctor, I believe we need to reduce the number of abortions in America. I believe government has the responsibility to regulate in this area and I support parental consent and notification requirements and

I oppose partial birth abortion. I also believe there are people of good will on both sides of the issue and we ought to work together to support and promote adoption as an alternative to abortion.”

He’s not prolife, except for partial-birth abortion. Guess I won’t be supporting him.

If I lived in MA, I would probably vote for him as the lesser of the evils, but I can’t see any conservative from another state sending him money, when they can send money to better candidates, like Toomey, et al.

“Scott Brown’s “mixed” Pro-Life record
by: Jay Guillette
Mon Sep 14, 2009 at 00:00:00 AM EDT

I spoke too soon in my last email about Scott Brown, who’s Pro-Life record is not actually clearly Pro-Life. Project Vote Smart says Sen. Brown supported NARAL Pro-Choice position 50% in 2005 and only supported MCFL Pro-Life position 33% in 2004.
http://www.votesmart.org/issue...
The Pro-Choice people do not rate Brown as Pro-Life, they rate him as mixed.
http://www.prochoicemass.org/a...
Speculation is he was against partial birth abortion, but generally Pro-Choice. Short of some clear anti-Pro-Choice statement in the News or on his web site, I can’t recommend you support him for his “Pro-Life” stance. I will keep all posted. “

Listen people your not going to get a Barry Goldwater in Ma.
So until you give up the dream of a Sarah Palin in every pot and check back into reality.
Scott Brown is no Dede Scuzzyfuzzy he a great canidate who got more votes in his district than Obama last election.

If Scott Brown gets elected in Ma. and is the 41st vote to knock off healthcare in the seat that Ted kennedy held.It would be the political shock and awe story of this century.
Support Scott Brown.

>> If I lived in MA, I would probably vote for him as the lesser of the evils, but I can’t see any conservative from another state sending him money, when they can send money to better candidates, like Toomey, et al.<<

Let’s get a little perspective here. A lot of politicians straddle the fence on certain issues depending upon their voting base. The fact that Brown is willing to hedge against the out-and-out pro-abortion position that MA voters most likely hold indicates that when a key national vote comes up on the issue, there’s a decent chance he’ll come down on the “right” side.

In the meantime, he’s clearly the best choice overall for a Conservative, and an upset win in MA would be the best money ever spent on a candidate.....ever! That would rock the Obama machine to its core, and shake some sense into all but the most liberal politicians in the country.

This election could show just how upset the general public is with the way Obama, Pelosi and Reid have been running the country. I don’t donate, but if I did, this one would be an easy pick. Especially when I see the commercials he’s already cut. They are excellent.

For my part, I sent an email per the following info (from another website):

“Anyone across the country who is interested in phone-banking on Scott Brown’s behalf, please contact Field Director Brad Hansen at:

brad@brownforussenate.com or call 509-595-4683”

Hope he has a chance. This one could be fun to watch.

Dittos on your comments. I sent a donation to Brown’s campaign. This is a very big deal, and I hope enough people realize that.

As I said, if I resided in MA I would hold my nose and vote for Scott Murphy, but for those interested in supporting candidates, who live in other states, I would politely suggest they support TRUE PROLIFE, CONSERVATIVE candidates, like Michele Bachmann (Pelosi is targeting her), Pat Toomey, Doug Hoffman, and other prolife conservatives.
