When are we going to hear of all of the peaceful, loving muslims heading to Haiti to help out?

You won’t hear of that. Neither will you hear of Atheist relief organizations. It the the generous Christian Spirit that leads out in these situations.

“Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto Me.”

Why was Obama’s response to this so slow? Has he even spoken on the subject?

Or Cuba? ... or Venezuela?

The Haitian government is infamously corrupt. This would be a good opportunity to “fix” that. The military will have their hands full either way.

Maybe all the crooks(polititians) were killed and we can put them on a better path. Seems to me the last time we tried to help those folks they told us to eff off.

Haiti for hundreds of years has been incapable of being “fixed.” Obama will try with tens of billions in your tax money.

What will the world do when the communists on capitol hill make us too poor to be the world’s clean-up crew?

In addition to my tax dollars I have donated to the Salvation Army for Haiti relief efforts. They are one of the only charities I trust.

And who was saying that to shrink the US Budget, that we needed to “downsize” our Military? Once again, the Big Green machine comes to the rescue of the downtrodden, along with the man/woman power of the US Navy to bring aid and comfort to the less fortunate.

Anyone who says that we should keep considering downsizing the Military should have their heads examined, and then shuttled off to the farthest deserted island. Let’s see how they fair.

The Marines off the USS Bataan don’t need a dock, just a beach.

But they can get close. In most cases, they would never dock anyway—but rather anchor close by. They would use landing ships and helicopters to transfer people and material back and forth.

Haiti is unfixable. The best we can do is bring a little help to those poor people. Of course we will end up with a
few hundred thousand more Haitians in FL and NY ...

Haiti, for hundreds of years, has not had a magnitude 7 earthquake to contend with. There has never been a better time to fix that island than now. Were it fixed, we would not have to contend with the inevitable flood of refuges. If we do not fix it, you can bet you’re a55 that we will have a flood of new Haitian immigrants entering our country. It’s time to nation build.

Haiti is a disaster. It would be a big mistake to let this opportunity to slip away or we surely will have hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of refuges heading for our shores. there has never been a better time to fix what ails this country. It serves us, it serves them, and it serves God himself.

As I posted yesterday ...
Why don’t we just annex the place, half their people are already here and we pump in bucks every year when a hurricane gets within 50 miles of the place. Now that the demo is done just bulldoze the rest and start building resorts. It would give the people meaningful jobs and the Canadians a new place to go in the winter

Anchoring out is nothing new in many Carribean ports. It does slow the offloading of supplies, however.

Right , goes as well for our “over the horizon” concept of putting men and machines ashore ... But the real problem is the VERY heavy equipment that is needed now.
Sure a LCat can carry a full loaded Abrams , but how do you get the cranes bulldozers, generators, supplies to the Bataan in the first place? You can;'t have her shuttling back and forth to the U.S. to reload.
You need a harbor and a decent dock for a RO-RO to get in there and do the heavy offloading.EVEN IN A COMBAT SITUATION YOU NEED THE PORTS.
Another point , the hospital ship Comfort needs a dock also , yes it has a vertical lift capacity but your talking about a few patients at a time on a helo.
Comfort needs to be next to shore and any remaining Resorts/hotels used a Hospitals. Let the journalist sleep in tents

Start with contraception in Haiti. The place is incredibly overpopulated.

Hopefully they won't get shot at in Haiti, unlike New Orleans.

That sounds about right to me. I don’t think we need to go so far as to annex them though. I’m pretty sure that’s not even an option. We just need to use our leadership and influence to guide the rebuilding process in a direction that benefits everybody. Bottom line, before we start handing over millions of dollars in humanitarian aid, we need to make sure that a puppet government is in place our else we’ll just be rebuilding the institutionalized corruption that this earthquake has so conveniently laid waste to. As bad as this is, it is still a golden opportunity to build something better and the people of Haiti have to realize this.

ah. Well, regardless, it will be interesting to see what Obama and the Dems do about this. This is Obama’s Katrina now. He’ll be judged by the outcome here and he won’t be able to blame anyone but himself and his party if it turns into a giant cluster F... and I strongly believe that that will be the case if he declines to drive a stake through the heart of Haiti’s entrenched corruption.

I disagree. There's no downside here for Obama. Haiti was a hellhole few Americans concerned themselves with before the earthquake and if that remains that afterwards, it won't reflect on That One at all.

On the other hand, if we go in and help the Haitians make something of themselves in the aftermath, Obama will have no trouble taking all the credit for it.

If he screws the pooch, we will make it his Katrina. IMO, we should be less concerned with that and more concerned with rendering the appropriate aid to this nation.
