Here is a video report on the plan for close to 10,000 U.S. Military Personnel to be on the ground in Haiti, or on ships just offshore by Monday. The speed with which everything can be put in place is being hampered there by the fact that the Port-Au-Prince Airport has only one usable runway, and there are so many planes needing to use it.

An entire brigade of 3,500 from the 82nd Airborne is expected to be on the ground by this weekend to provide security in the devastated area. The Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Carl Vinson should arrive on Friday, and it will have 19 helicopters that can be used to ferry supplies from ships to shore. . . . (VIDEO)

I would like to see us conquer Haiti, or at least let the French take it. Would love to visit. Beautiful landscape and a lot of money could be made.

i guess 1 billion per 1000 troops is not such an issue now. took him months to agree on 30,000 to fight a war, and what 20 minutes to send 10,000 to haiti. Dont get me wrong these troops will save lives...but they do that in BOTH locations.

I generally don't like Nation Building. But Lord knows we've racked up a lot of experience in that department. Maybe we could turn Haiti around and make it a decent place -- but the values that would be required to do that are not the values that Obama believe in.

Therefore, at this time, aside from digging out bodies, I think the US ought not to get very involved.

This aid is a bite much. Your questions are the same as mine. Help but don't spend billions. This money should come from donations, not taxpayers. Obama is working on his ‘legacy’. Thousands of troops, an aircraft carrier, and who knows what else. I wonder how much does it cost to run an aircraft carrier for an hour?

You’re kidding, right? Just the food costs alone for the crew for 3 squares plus “Mid-Rats” run well over $75K. And your paying for the JP-5 for the choppers, crew payroll, fuel for the escorts that are not nuclear powered, etc, etc, etc...

And that’s not saying ANYTHING for the MRE’s and pallets of water, basic medical supplies,...............
