Holy screaming meemies, what a raging clusterfoxtrot ITAR has become.
As is the case with the WarOnDrugs, the WarOnGuns, the WarOnTobacco, the WarOnAnythingTheGoobermintDoesNOTLike, if you sell, make or sneeze around anything-concrete pipe, rifle scopes, cattle prods,et.al you are guilty until proven innocent, citizen, based on the whim and caprice of some pencil necked twit with a gun and badge ensconced in a conference room far, far away.
The only difference between the SHOT Show arrests and the historical record of Import/Export Violations is the pencil necked twits with guns and badges are no longer content to prosecute ACTUAL imaginary crimes and have now moved instead to prosecute IMAGINARY imaginary crimes called stings.

Best regards to all,
I understand it is useful in certain circumstances to get criminals off the street when it might be very difficult to catch them otherwise, but this is ridiculous. In some foreign countries, bribes are a part of everyday business activities.
In the 1980’s I delivered a LARGE bribe to some Greek Generals ,, a consultancy fee ,, for their help in deciding to buy computer equipment for an inventory and maintenance system.. got a signature and delivered the receipt to our accountants ,, wrote it off as a normal cost of business in that country.
I have a friend who's brother was just elected mayor in a medium-sized city in Thailand. It's understood by all that the mayor will skim 20-30% of any Government contracts placed; it's actually the way the mayor "earns" their income!
They just want to keep us safe. You must hate America first! There are lots of people around Free Republic that will agree that giving up freedoms for government-backed and ensured safety is a great bargain!
ITAR is a horror. You can go to jail for the least little slip. It is Stalinist to the max.
