In an Interview, U.S. Chief Jim Lentz Insists Toyota Didnt Hide Acceleration Problem

Seems like the kind of thing for which there will be a congressional investigation.
Toyota has been having “secret” recalls for years and NHTSA has been aiding them by keeping quiet about it. Toyota must have done something to piss off the current administration or the manufacturers and unions being supported by them.
Yea, we knew about it for 10 years but we didn’t cover it up.
That guy is toast!

Um...yeah. They aren’t owned by the government and the UAW.
We just bought a car on the recall list and understand most of what this recall is about.
IMHO, this is a shakedown of Toyota by DOJ to generate more sales for GM.
Bingo, during the cash for clunkers, Toyota made out very well. This is just payback.
I bought my wife a new RAV4 before this gas pedal shiit hit the fan. I’ve had Toyotas and Hondas for the wife for a long time. I’m completele satisified with either one.
My rides a year old Jeep. And I could care less if it’s a government motors product. I buy what I want when I want it and I suspect most people here do too.
I don’t know. I venture to guess they been working on a fix for a longtime. I don’t see how a problem can arise and fixed within days for a massive voluntary recall.
IMHO, it way more far reaching than that. I watched Judy Woodruff and another left leaning think tank woman discussing this tonight on PBS. The thinktanker pointed out that this came right out of the Whitehouse from the Secretary of Transportation who's really feeling his oats after smacking the airline industry with a ruling of a 3 hour maximum from boarding to take off, or else!!!
It caused me to think of the EnvironMental Communutty's mission against SUV's recently. They now want you "back on your feet" and out of your cars since their man caused glowbull warming idea/hoax is falling flat.
Attacking Toyota, the new world leader in auto production and sales, with the media fright machine about gas pedals sticking is more than a shot across the bow... it's insidious and indicative of the seething hatred of the Obama administration for all things successful, capitalistic and profitable!!!
Nothing could possibly be more anti-American that trying to psyche everyone out of their beloved, freedom providing automobiles!!!
This is a serious recall but the hype is a Hail Mary abetted by the State Controlled Press to drive sales to GM or Chrysler. Is the throttle mechanical or is it drive by wire...
The suits are claiming it's software related, but Toyota disagrees completely. Besides, software is not causing the same problem in ANY other automobile currently being manufactured.
This whole issue has had a stench of politics hanging over it worse than the smog cloud that used to hang over Ontario, CA in the late '60's and '70's!!!
It's either a rheostat or a computer problem since there isn't any direct connection from the throttle pedal and the injector throttle body.
They are still doing a coverup since they came back in the news this morning with the floor mat BS.
Hi!
I have a Toyota Camry. I have a stick shift. I am an excellent driver and I drive fast.
Six months ago or so my gas pedal accelerated without my help and I did a few things. I put my foot underneath it to unstick, in retrospect I realize I also put it in neutral, and, finally, the mat was scrunched up so I pullet that away.
I reported back to my dh about this and gallows humor laughed about how I always dismissed other such reports but it actually had happened to me.
I don’t know whether it is floor mat or software/mechanical, but I do know it happened to me and I believe that when I shifted into neutral I reset the car.
V’s wife.
The automatics cannot be shifted into neutral without lowering the speed.
