Sorry guys. You won’t get any traction with this. This was a mutual benefit contract. A governor is elected to protect the rights of the state’s citizens, not companies with which the state does business. It’s a long time MO of oil companies to enter into agreements with crooked politicians to tie up oil and gas leases just to keep them out of the hands of their competitors. In Alaska, the oil and gas belongs to the people of Alaska. So this activity cheats them out of money they are entitled to, and in a supply and demand market, raises the end price of the product for everyone. This case may go through several appeals, but in the end it’s the job of a governor to protect the state’s citizens from exploitation.
Bring this up as much as you like. It’s a net plus for Palin.
A net plus for Palin is making a quasi-socialist maneuver by stomping on signed legal documents?
Like I said, Alaska should hire better lawyers next time.
Palin was completely out of line.
I provided one for the first article because the one posting the article did not.
I have no opinion on who is right or wrong on the subject.)
I think I see what you are trying to say. Alaska already had a tradition established here about oil profits, much the same as Kuwait. Ending it would be like abolishing sosh-security without any warning to seniors. That about sums it up?
Palin forces Exxon to drill when they deem it proper to wait (probably to accomodate market forces) and then when they pump oil she distributes Alaskan citizens’ share with annual checks and she looks like a hero to her people. The Chavez analogy is pretty spot on.
