The author’s name is Amity Shlaes. Shales and Shale seem to be common corruptions of her name. It’s easier to find the book with the correct spelling of the author’s name.
There is one very important difference. The Internet. FDR was very effective at hiding the truth about himself. So much so that to this day most people don’t know how terrible he was.

Great book. A true classic. The infestation of socialists in the Roosevelt administration was an eye opener for me. All of their grandiose schemes and legislation had a theme of government control, redistribution of wealth or collectivism running through them. The net result of all their efforts were, in short, to greatly prolong the Depression.
We seem to be repeating the policies FDR followed and that kept us in depression for a decade, until WWII. Deficit spending, public works projects, regulations, insurances etc.
They will try the same thing discussed here . . . raising taxes to bring the budget more in line.
Meanwhile the supply side solution of lower taxes always seems to work. If we combined that with lower government spending we’d have another American century.

Holy Cow! What an idiot. Thanks for the correction.
I have a copy but haven’t read it yet. I will start it next week.
I’ve got to finish “The Road to Serfdom” first.

I think he will select the target for a war this year or perhaps one will be selected for him.
I also will not be shocked to see a national emergency declared prior to November. This may allow postponement of the normal election cycle which all indicators to date depict a massive loss in the democratic controlled house and senate.
Hussein will not allow that to happen, and his handlers will protect him with patriotic nonsense and war hype journalism.
Or not...
Read fast. The road has gotten much shorter, wider and faster recently.
You should cut & paste in order to avoid these mistakes.
He also points out all the Communists influence inside the WH and the administration including the President's wife, Eleanor. He points out clearly how the war was fought to save Joseph Stalin and the USSR from Hitler and Japan. He assured Communism's survival and expansion.
George Patton said we should finish the war while we were still prepared by destroying Stalin and his army. Patton was killed shortly afterward in a strange automobile accident.
Welcome to the Conspiracy Nut Roundtable. I sit at the head of the table and I agree with you.
Bill and Hillary Clinton are just as Leftist as Obama but were held in check by Republicans in Congress. Same with Jimmy Carter. Now, with the large Democrat majority the nuts are trying to cement the deal with a complete takeover. They probably won't get another chance this good because the people have risen up against them. With the internet they can no longer depend on the media to keep the sheep pacified and in the dark.
This thread speaks directly to the discussion we had about the Great Depression. You may want to read it.
I only pointed this out to spare others the same waste of time.
Saturday, February 13, 2010 History Repeating Itself and Not in a Good Way Do yourself a favor and get a copy of Amity Shlaes' The Forgotten Man, A New History of the Great Depression. Barack Obama's presidency and his economic policies are placed in context once you read Shlaes' account of FDR and his policies. Written in 2007, there is no way Shlaes could have manipulated the similarities.
Spelling is correct.
I’m glad to see she corrected this.
I have made the same analysis to some of my friends . I don't know if they think I am a nut or very wise. This is not a political battle but an ideological one. The marxists don't play by the rule of a democracy. They see power and power only. If the tide of the democracy turns against them they will divert the democratic process by any means necessary. The oldest play in the book is a national emergency, usually war. They have the power now and I fear will use it to obtain more power by any means. The internet also poses a challenge for control of the media. Any move to control the internet will signal the next stage in control of America. (Disclaimer: I don't listen to coast to coast or any of the other loonie bin types.)
