Australia with its small population base consistently performs well on the World Sports arena in most Sports. This is ably demonstrated by its ranking as the eighth highest Olympic Medal winner in both the overall total, and eighth also in numbers of Gold medals. Because it is consistently warm to hot all year round, there is a distinct lack of facilities and venues for Winter Sports, so most athletes get their Winter Sports training outside of Australia, and they also do well in that arena also. Even though Australia has competed at 16 of the 20 Winter Games till now, it was not until 2002 that we finally won a Gold Medal, and that tally now stands at three only. This is the story of that famed first Gold Medal with a short humoruous video showing how Steven Bradbury finally achieved that elusive Winter Gold.
Having been to Oz,it’s just about the last country on earth that I’d expect to have an Olympic Bobsled Team (or any other Winter Olympics teams) apart from, say,Jamaica.
