Happy Violence Against Men Day!
The Voice of Reason ^ | February 14, 2010 | Texas Peartree

In January of 1993, a coalition of women's groups in California announced a "study" showing that domestic violence against women reached its peak during the Super Bowl. In fact, they claimed, domestic violence increased by 40% during the big game. It turned out that the statistics were made up in order to highlight a very real issue. The numbers were always suspect; everyone knows men do not even notice women when football is on television.

Fast forward to Valentine's Day. How many people realize that 48% of married men, and 41% of single men in long-lasting relationships, face physical, mental and psychological abuse during Valentine's Day and the days leading up to it? Those numbers are from 2010. Where did I get this data? Well, I made it up. However, it does highlight a serious issue and deeper truth: many men have no idea how to approach the holiday and are headed toward disaster.

As a king of romance, I am one of the lucky ones. Intuitively, I know what to do on this day so fraught with danger. I gladly dance through minefields because I love my wife. But what of the others? Less skilled, they are the Lost Boys.

I’ll TRY to restrain myself. Let’s just hope Husband doesn’t look at me ‘funny’ today and I take it the wrong way. *Rolleyes*

And, you’re right. This stupidity HURTS Society as a whole. But, we’ve been on a pretty slippery slope these past fifty years as people turn away from God, Family, Country.

Thank a Socialist!

The grain of truth is that many women do inflict considerable abuse on men and boys, even if it is mostly psychological. And again, many women (and men as well) neither see anything wrong in this, ignore it, or rationalize it.

It could be said that many (again “many”, not all) women’s attitudes to psychological abuse against men and boys, is still in the comparable age to when many men and women thought that physical abuse by men against women “showed that he cared”. “He hits me because he loves me.”

In turn, it is not a big leap from psychological abuse against men to be returned, in spades, with misogyny and objectification of women, by men, years later.

Finally, it should be pointed out that psychological abuse by women is not limited to men and boys, but it also inflicted on other women and girls as well, with equally serious long term consequences.

The abuse I’d be able to handle. But you can’t outrun a bullet/buckshot. Can’t outrun a knife when you’re sleeping in bed. Can’t outrun the police, when they want to just “talk to you.”

I’m glad I don’t date.

Happy Violence Against Men Day!

Was "Violence Against Men Day" inspired by the actions of women who received sub-standard Valentines the day before?

Way back in 1973 (when wife abuse was just becoming a public issue) we were taught in a college sociology class, by a female professor, that statistically, women are actually responsible for the majority of and most violent domestic abuse. That women are the most violent was rather easy to understand, because being physically weaker, they are more likely to pick up a weapon of some sort. She said it was under-reported because men don’t publicize that they’re getting beat up until it gets them sent to an ER.

Anyone over 50 certainly remembers the cartoons, comedic plays and movies, etc. where the wife is waiting with a rolling pin, frying pan, etc. to bash her misbehaving husband. In those days, MEN were taught to NEVER strike a woman!

Perhaps the increased frequency of wife abuse nowadays is an unintended consquence of Feminism?

I know this is a sensitive issue, but I wanted to say something. I think the thread was funny, but wanted to respond to your post.

Women are the sole agressor in over 70% of cases in which one party is hurt. The DOJ reports that over 40% of domestic violence injuries are to men, but does not include the numbers of male victims after they have been incarcerated, because they are not considered victims.

Studies (And yes, I’ll look for them, one was performed on military personnel, I believe on a military base), have shown that women are 3 times more likely (I think 77%) to use a weapon and males are likely to use a weapon I believe (24%) as found by the study, as women use weapons to make up for their lesser size/physique.

While violence against women is just as that against horrible men, people should not pick a side and continue to allow Government to destroy families by using gender warfare.

(Separate Study) IIRC over 60% of women in battered women shelters admit that they were never hurt, but were in fact looking for the get out of marriage free card so to speak. DV against women isn’t prosecuted in general, because it doesn’t pay. And when you look to what the “Justice” system generally fights, look no further than your wallet, and the war on drugs. (I happen to believe most drugs should be outlawed, by state, but leave that to states to decide).

There isn’t an excuse to hit your spouse, unless defending yourself from being hit. I’m personally aware of 4 divorces in which a woman falsely accused a man of being beaten to sweeten her deal in divorce, thankfully two of those were let off completely for no grounds, and one sadly pled to a lesser crime, but thankfully will be ok.

I’m sick of government playing to racial, gender and class warfare. They won’t stop unless it stops making them money.

That’s just my opinion...
