Like it or not, Scandinavia has the money.
Over here, it's a common hobby among people who work only 8 hours a day to restore old American cars to mint condition.
I crash my Volvo V70 on a dialy basis.
Anyhow;

The Wrainbow Wrecking Yard.
The cars are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone to put gas in them and change their oil.
They all drive and play together and never run out of gas, though. Then the day comes when one suddenly stops and honks into the distance. His bright headlights are intent; His eager engine revs.
Suddenly he begins to lay rubber and drives from the group, zooming over the asphalt, his wheels carrying him faster and faster, redlining the tach.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
Then you drive over the Rainbow Bridge together....
And, if you are from California, you still have to pay for registration.
Never thought of this.
Mexico.
>>Never thought of this.<<
It is part of my sick personality ;)
“Mexico.”
- You’re right; many cars Americans use up end up in Mexico.
But you Americans also ought to acknowledge what Scandinavia does in this department.
We take very good care of old American cars over here in IKEA-land.
For some reason, restoring old Detroit wrecks has become almost like a lifestyle to some people living in the countryside of Sweden (and also some parts of Norway and Finland).
“It is part of my sick personality”
- As long as you’re not Taliban or Nazist etc. you are a friend of mine.
I’m 40.
Yesterday, at my work, we spent 7 hours discussing how newly wed Turkish couples are greeted on the day after.
- “Affran, how many times you did tonight??”
Affran.
Fascinating!
parsy
- Nice hearing you say so.
In many ways, the Scandinavian countryside is honorable;
The people are not especially well educated like the part of the population that dwell in the (few) big cities are over here, but many of them are right-wing and understand why the West has to stand up for the very values it is based upon.
Anyone stupid/brave enough to start a discussion over a topic like, say, Scandinavian presence in Afghanistan with a grandson of the men who fought Stalin in the Winter War or fought Hitler in the fiords of Norway is likely to get his teeth punched out.
Yes, Scandinavia is unbearably PC and all that - like most of Europe and large segments of America - and admittedly, many of us Europeans still rely too much on a useless, outdated tool of global affairs like the UN.
But Europe will not slumber forever and why should anyone, ever, care about the insults launched by Chirac towards America?
As a European, I wish to apologize for them and win this war!!
I read that book by Mark Steyn, “America Alone”. It looks like you guys are going to have some problems. Good luck! And, yes, I think Europe is going to wake up. Even France is starting to bow up over the scarves.
parsy, who figures somebody in Europe will rise to the occasion
- On the other hand, the US still is one the few nations here on Earth where an ordinary guy still can expect to;
* One day own a decent house
* One day own two decent cars
* One day own some stock
Okay, back in the 1960s, such accomplishments in life came earlier to common folks, but now people live longer, don't we all?
Furthermore, life is not all rosy elsewhere.
Yes, Scandinavia, Switzerland and Inner London is richer than the US.
But even though I, personally, happen to live in a very rich corner of the Globe, I don't fail to see the problems on domestic soil.
All of Malmö, my nation's third largest city (650 000 inhabitants) doesn't look like this, but something IS definitely rotten here in Scandinavia:

Sheer Racism is wrong, yes, but there's also something deeply erroneous/insane/evil about letting millions of settlers from Somalia and other Muslim parts of the World in our continent.
I don't have a problem with other skin colors, but I have a huge problem with Islam.
Thanks. I enjoyed those.
