A reported 10-percent decline in the crime rate for last year has sparked a heated disagreement over the cause.
On the right, the surge in purchases of guns of all sorts since the ascension of Barack Obama to the presidency is hailed as proof that a well-armed citizenry deters crime. The more likely it is that a law-abiding citizen is armed, the riskier it is for a criminal to attempt to rob or assault him, said National Rifle Association Executive Vice-President Wayne LaPierre. Those who wrote the Second Amendment knew this. Maybe this latest data will demonstrate this truth to a modern audience.
The data, though, isnt demonstrating any such truth to die-hard gun-control advocates. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence attributes the decrease in reported crime rates to the economic recession. With so many people out of work, there is simply less for criminals to steal, said spokesman Brayon Tripper. So, in a way, the bad economy is leaving thieves unemployed, as well.
Vice-President Joe Biden credits increased government hand-outs for the decline in crime. With trillions in stimulus money floating around, theres less need for ordinary robberies, Biden reasoned. I mean, why take the risk of illegally trying to get into someone elses pocket when theres a legal way to get the same result?
Biden argued that President Obama and Congressor at least the Democrats in Congressdont get a fair share of the credit for what theyve done to help lower the crime rate. Without the programs theyve enacted, many people would be forced to initiate their own poorly-conceived heists and a lot more people would get hurt.

Brilliant John, simply brilliant
“Without the programs theyve enacted, many people would be forced to initiate their own poorly-conceived heists and a lot more people would get hurt.”
LOL - Perfect touch of subtley, John.
Was laughing so hard, I misspelled subtlety...
No reason to steal the government is handing out bucket fulls of money to the democrats.
LOL !
I think you misspelled "Joe" too.
Great piece, John. Thanks for the ping.
The Biden “quote” was perfect.
I liked the rest of the stories on that page too.
Bush’s Fault
Not so difficult to understand.
Lots of illegal aliens, have gone home.
LMAO!!! Great work John. Thanks for the ping.
Just read the headline JS.
So does this mean that crime has increased but the reporting of it has declined?
tada
sod;)
Wjy subscribe to the onion when you're here once or twice a week and much more subtle at that. 9.9 and let the Russians take the hindmost!
Biden probably would believe he made that alleged quote.
Crime goes down when they lock up career criminals for longer periods of time. Then they could have been hierarchical counting the crimes, only the most serious offense is counted, the rest discarded. In a robery/rape/murder case only the murder is counted. Just lost 2 crimes.
Very good (and funny) John. Thanks.
Poverty does not make people into savages, heathens and criminals, it's personal choices and a culture that accepts/permissive or even condones this behavior. Head to W. Texas and you have poverty, yet there is no need to lock your car or home in these small towns. Head into S. Dallas where the per capita income is higher, there are more and better social services for the “self perceived” underdogs and poor, and you really have to fear crime.
The drop in crime is because of rigorous policing, law enforcements ability to fight crime. Better technology in databases, FLIR, night vision...... more police on the streets, a tightening of laws that puts scumbags away for longer etc........ The problem is that the drop in crime is because of the threat of force, the fear of being caught, and the severity of the consequences that follow. However, when the systems enforcing this law fail as in Los Angeles or more recently New Orleans, chaos reign. The vermin will rape, pillage and burn.
