Many players have noted the work in FarmVille seems somewhat educational. This, in fact, is what intrigues educators about video games in general. They are so interactive and require focused attention to progress. So, the thinking goes, if we can have students play with educational elements perhaps theyll absorb some pedagogical content in ways they cant through books or television. Could FarmVille be a tool leveraged for classroom use?

I, mystery-ak am addicted to Farmville....there I said it!!!
Farmville is very educational as most strategy games are. This is probably the upper echelon of video-gaming, though. Most of the stuff below this level isn’t very educational at all.
I highly recommend playing Civilization 3 or 4. This game can introduce the player to geopolitics and history and is a good start to really understanding our world and how it works. Many Lefties lack this understanding because of their insular indoctrination.
LOL! I’m addicted, too! Who would have “ thunk” that when I retired I would take up farming?
Hi Mystery-ak!
(wanna be fv neighbors?)
So I deleted both of them. I still think with sadness of my lovely villa, my cows, my chickens, and my farming equipment.
Its not educational. White grapes don’t harvest a day after planting.
That reminds me...
I quit it.. boring
Geeks in Geekworld.
I guess ....
whew. Got them harvested before they withered! Thanks.
I like Zoo Tycoon. It is hard. It requires you to work within a budget, plan your zoo, and take care of the animals.
sure....I will send you my real name via FR mail..lol
My website and FV keep me busy but I can walk away from my farm at any time....yes, I can....
Farmville VA. is pronounced “fawmvul” by the locals....
All in all, I think it's been a good learning tool for us. And it's fun too. The only drawback is the amount of time that can be spent working the game.
I’m addicted also, and my 11 year old plays after homeschooling is done...cool game.
I need FV neighbors. Not lectures about how “dumb” FV is.
LOL. You tell ‘em, PackerBoy. Go git those neighbors!
Hello, my name is Autumnraine and I am a Farmville addict.
My 8 year old plays Farmville on a closed Facebook account (no friends but me, I log her in and out) and she does really well figuring out how much she has to plant, how much she will make after the cost of plowing and buying seeds, etc... How many more animals she could fit on her land if she invested in chicken coops or stables for cows... and so on.
So yes, I say Farmville is educational in some ways.
I DO I DO!!! I wanna be fv neighbors!! I have lots of pink calves, LOL!
Have you seen Surrogates.....seems to me that was the ultimate in virtual reality. In my mind that goes along with this topic! ;0)
me too. i love being able to plant and harvest stuff (even if it isn’t real) while it is 25degrees and snowing outside.
I purposely have not played FV for that very reason. I am already addicted to Bejeweled Blitz and I don’t even like the game. I just want to beat all my friends. Lol!
FV neighbors?????
We should meet up on FR on FB and post an ADD MEE thread!
See Ya’ll there!
I heard Leo Laporte this morning talking about his healed addiction to Farmville. I had never heard of it. Is this something that can be played if you are not on Facebook? I just cannot bring myself to join Facebook.
Longwood University is in Farmville, thats pretty educational.
Monopoly is just as well IMO. I spend my time at FR and flea markets picking up old farm equipment to use myself when anarchy sets in and the economy tanks after some idiot shoots this President.
I'm cracking up seeing FReepers ask for neighbors just like all the "Add Me!!" posts on facebook. But I'd gladly add you if you pm me your email :D
Autumn, my 8 yr old begs me daily for her own farm and will jump on mine if I don't watch and do all my chores! I'm just having a difficult time letting her have a facebook account.
It was hard for me too, but I decided to do it very very regulated and the only thing she has is the games. I even made up a “Game friend” account so she could have at least two neighbors, but I am considering letting my relatives add her. Her picture is a snapshot of her farm, no pictures of herself are on there and I log her in and log her out. They also have new privacy settings where only certain people can see certain things. But I don’t even want to go to that point with it yet.
It was a big decision, but I realized that it’s not like she’s surfing with her friends. I have total control of her account and any notices of posts made or received go to my email.
But I completely understand the fear about it. I was hesitant too.
LOL!!!
Hey! We have invested in farm equipment too! My husband built a chicken coop. Somehow I imagine the real life chickens will smell much worse than my farmville ones do. ha
It has potential but has gotten too far away from the concept of actual farming IMHO. It’s created by a company out of San Fran so I’m guessing their actual exposure to real farming is limited. It lost me with elephants, penguins and valentines, too bad.
FR mail me and i will send you my name so you can be my neighbor...btw..I am a good neighbor hehehe
If anyone wants to be my neighbor please FRmail me for info....
I don’t like all those things either...my farm is...a farm...lol
I can quit Farmville anytime I want, but I don’t want to :)
Here is FreeRepublic on Facebook. Go there and comment on the ‘Farmville ADD MEE’ thread if you want to add or be added for FV neighbor....
