In the last week, vast areas of the State of Queensland in Australia have been subject to major flooding following a huge rain event, something rare for this area, which is in the main very dry. Some places had a year's rain in hours. The Rivers have all come up, spread outwards and are slowly moving that immense mass of water to the South. An area roughly the size of the State of Wyoming is now under water. This rain event moved slowly South and also resulted in massive storms in Melbourne, 1000 miles away from those flood in Queensland, and within this post is a further link to that story with 4 short videos as well indicating the damage caused by hail, in some cases 4 inches across.
Global Warming!
Old Cyclone?
Is this an old cyclone by chance?
No. This event actually generated in that area. It sucked the water down from the North, and dumped it all over that vast area.
Hard for greenies to find a downside....I’d like to help:
S.O.W. {Save Our Wastelands)
Endangered scorpions, spiders, fleas
Salinization...lead....silted rivers....whole ecosystems wiped out....plentiful water leading to nonchalant overuse of once-scarce resources.....something about whales dying??.
Wow that is a boat load of water. I hope it fills all of the empty reservoirs, I heard it’s has been dry for a long time.
Big wet: Homes are swamped in the tiny town of Bollon, near St George (ABC: Taryn Southcombe)
holy cow . what amazing pix! I love storms also & when I lived in Fla would go out & wash my hair in big storms ...
but not with tennis ball sized hail!
good grief
We’re watching another wave of it rolling towards us right now.
From the looks of that wall cloud, those two were lucky not to have been running toward a tornado.
Significant tornadoes are very rare here. Don’t ask me why - not a meteorologist - but they don’t seem to hit us.
Well, if you see a squall line with a wall cloud like that coming toward you, and it has rotation in it, find a room in the middle of your house, one not on an exterior wall, and hang on.
Be safe dude, watch that the lightening doesn't find your "puter".
If that were the USA, the EPA would have a field day declaring it all a “wetland” and making it off-limits to any development whatsoever.
How is the Sunshine Coast faring? Some low spots east of the expressway, I understand?
Is Richard Chamberlain visiting Oz for some reason?
