It was an Oscar shocker as Karthryn Bigelow won the 2010 Academy Award for Best Director over James Cameron, and the military film she directed, The Hurt Locker, won the Academy Award for Best Picture instead of Avatar. Not only is this the first time that a woman has won the academy award for Best Director, but this woman beat James Cameron - the man whose last two films, Avatar and Titanic, have grossed more money than any other two films in history. And to top it all off, Kathryn Bigelow happens to be James Cameron's ex-wife ...

I guess I’m growing soft, because I thought 2009 was an amazing year for movies.

Anything good released in ‘09 aside from The Road?

“Moon” with Sam Rockwell was incredible. He should have had a best actor nomination.

I didn’t see The Road. Here are the movies I saw that I enjoyed, in no particular order... I admit to a bias to action, science-fiction, and fantasy...

Moon
Star Trek
Avatar
The Hurt Locker
The Watchmen
UP
Public Enemies
District
Zombieland
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Sherlock Holmes

The Road is worth seeing - like a cross between AI and The Omega Man

The best small work of 09 was Taking Chance with Kevin Bacon.
It was an HBO production..I know, I know, but they did give us Band of Brothers as well.

The opposite, a pos anti military film titled The Messenger, probably only shown in some California Mosque for entertainment was of course nominated for an Academy Award.

The Hurt Locker.
A bone thrown to show that Hollywood is patriotic? Yeah, right, as long as the main character is a suicidal Waco.
I guess anyone who goes into a burning house to rescue a dog or a baby or whatever is doing it for the “Rush” as well.....crap.
Having said that.....The film is extremely well made...nowhere as realistic as say Black Hawk Down but never the less a film that deserves a lot of credit.
So here's how I would rate the films:
#1 Taking Chance
#2. The Hurt Locker
and # 3, right below that classic Hudson Hawk with Bruce Willis....The Messenger.
