Nixon, GHWB and Johnson had been Vice President, generally considered an executive office. William H. Taft had served in the cabinet (Robert Taft was a loser). Ike was a general like most presidents in the late 19th century. I will give you Lincoln, the only superior ex-legislative candidate.

Yeah, credencials [it's spelled "credentials"] be damned! If you're not a celebrity, you're not qualified to hold the highest office in the land.

If you can't get votes, you can't win.

Remember President Bob Dole? It was Bob Dole's turn. Bob Dole lost to the (at that time) most corrupt Democrat president in history. Bob Dole didn't care. It was Bob Dole's turn to be the RNC nominee. Bob Dole couldn't get any votes, but by God, Bob Dole was the nominee. Bob Dole wasn't about to let any conservative take his turn. Bob Dole lost big time. And America lost.

Then it was John McCain's turn to be the RNC nominee, MY FRIENDS. It was his turn. Blah, Blah, Blah. America lost big time.

Then it was Mitt Romney's turn to be the RNC nominee. WTF?

Dukakis, Carter and Dewey lost to other governors. Stevenson lost to a five star general. In other words, of all your examples, only Lincoln was a valid example of your point.

Yes, I do remember Bob Dole. I always viewed him as the sacrificial lamb because everyone knew how poplar Clinton was. Being corrupt was cool. When I was in the workforce and the Internet bubble burst, I realized in retrospect the ‘90s were “good times.” Let’s compare the incumbent Democrats of 1996 to 2012. Regardless of his no-tie look, Barry will never be Slick Willy. He doesn’t have the great economy nor does he have the political mind of Clinton. Barry is very beatable. Therefore your agrument that Dole was lame is, well, lame.

The reason I argue against Palinbots on these threads is that they drown out any political discussion of another candidate THREE YEARS before the race. If they don’t shut up, other conservative “nobodies” with c-r-e-d-e-n-T-i-a-l-s will remain nobodies.

I was on fire for Sarah when she first made the national scene. But the more I see of her, the more I think that Palinbots have put her on too high of a pedestal. God bless her for her pro-life work and other accomplishments. But she is not presidential material at this point in time. I don’t want to be like Obama supporters, willing to pin my hopes on a charismatic candidate who shares my ideals but is young and inexperienced. My feelings toward Palin are very uncertain and less than impressed with her political shrewdness. She’s hasn’t’ reached “Thatcher-dom“ in my mind‘s eye. I'm hoping I'm wrong because Palinbots are many and she'll probably win the nomination.

If we’re citing success of Presidents who lacked executive experience before office, let’s not forget to analyze the current president who seems to be letting his lack of experience show. Unlike Palin supporters, I’m not willing to pin all my hopes on someone with less of a career, hoping that she‘ll turn out to be Calvin Coolidge. Just because she shares my ideals doesn’t mean she has the political shrewdness to make those ideals reality.

Except for Kennedy, everyone on that list was older. Some where much older, having far more life experience than Palin will have in 2012. She’s never been an army general and so I'd have to disagree. And none of them were so deeply hated (except for Lincoln later in office). Sarah Palin herself admitted that she underestimated the deep seething hatred leftist had for her.

To me, Sarah Palin is an uncertain, very risky and volatile candidate who, if she does reach the Presidency, will have to waste much of it defending herself. That gives me great unease considering her political adversaries successfully forced her to resign as Governor.

I would suggest reading her book. She has more political shrewdness needed to get things done than most people realize.

yeah because the bush family the clinton family, the kennedy family, the chenney’s can not possibly have any people in it that as children grew up learning the trade. What we are saying when we cite Piper is that the Palin family has become a new political family that will most likely continue to have political power for generations.

Those who hope Palin’s 15 min will end soon are in for a big disappointment. We are seeing the emergence of a new political family dynasty IMO.

that’s because the biggest haters of Palin are Ronulans and Rmney supporters. each camp sees Palin taking voters from their camps. Palin takes away Paul’s fiscal conservative and Romney’s “next in line” voters to a large degree. Palin has what those two have without the negatives of being a crank and a nobody.

So they rightly see Palin has the biggest threa tto their “man’s” ability to win and thus attack her.
