If you are white and come from South Africa and now reside in the United States of America, you are, in effect, an “African American”. By the way, on the 2010 census, under race, check the box that indicates “other” and put the word AMERICAN next to the box. Let us all makes this a National effort!
I'm with you. Hyphenated Americans seem like part time Americans and they can shut up and move to the back.
