Former Bush speechwriter David Frum says it’s hard to exaggerate the magnitude of the GOP disaster. And he blames this “most crushing legislative defeat since the 1960s” on conservatives and Republicans:
At the beginning of this process we made a strategic decision: unlike, say, Democrats in 2001 when President Bush proposed his first tax cut, we would make no deal with the administration. No negotiations, no compromise, nothing. We were going for all the marbles. This would be Obama’s Waterloo – just as healthcare was Clinton’s in 1994.
Only, the hardliners overlooked a few key facts: Obama was elected with 53% of the vote, not Clinton’s 42%. The liberal block within the Democratic congressional caucus is bigger and stronger than it was in 1993-94. And of course the Democrats also remember their history, and also remember the consequences of their 1994 failure.
When Rush Limbaugh said that he wanted President Obama to fail, he was intelligently explaining his own interests. What he omitted to say – but what is equally true – is that he also wants Republicans to fail. If Republicans succeed – if they govern successfully in office and negotiate attractive compromises out of office – Rush’s listeners get less angry. And if they are less angry, they listen to the radio less, and hear fewer ads for Sleepnumber beds.
So today’s defeat for free-market economics and Republican values is a huge win for the conservative entertainment industry. Their listeners and viewers will now be even more enraged, even more frustrated, even more disappointed in everybody except the responsibility-free talkers on television and radio. For them, it’s mission accomplished. For the cause they purport to represent, it’s Waterloo all right: ours.

Frum is what is wrong with the RINOs. They just want to become the Democrat lite party. 40% of Americans self-describe themselves as conservatives or twice the number who say they are liberals. The problem with the GOP is that they have failed to distinguish themselves from the Dems on the major challenges facing this country. The voter must choose between tweedledum and tweedledee.
Frum is literally the biggest jackass I have ever seen in my lifetime. This idiot is translating a very unpopular bill passing as a victory. In face, the party in power was placed there 18 months ago, and basically has destroyed all that good will in the time since. Every election since then and every poll in the past nine months proves this bozo wrong. The people lose here, not the GOP. the GOP and people are now all on the same team.

I followed the link, was this posted so we could know our enemy? Why would anyone listen to moderates after yesterdays vote? Their appeasement and entitlement attitude help make us into a Socialist America. Moderates and Democrats (ALL Dems) need to be dropped off in the Amazon jungle so they can build their utopia or be eaten by the animals. No, it's not! The Democrats have a comfortable majority in the House. That's the way politics work. The majority pretty much gets done what they want to get done.
Fact is, more Democrats voted with the Republicans than the other way around. It would be a “crushing legislative defeat” had the numbers of Dems vs Republicans been more nearly equal. But with the significant majority the Democrats enjoy in the House passing anything by only 4 votes is a defeat for the majority.
Really!! and what is it that Frum is wanting anyway? A bunch of John McCains running around DC congratulating the opposition for beating their pants off... OH how collegial, how gentlemanly, how pleasant it would be if we could all have a pony like John McCain!!

Frum prefers conservatives act like frogs and cede ground, take ground, but slowly we are pulled to the left. That is moderation. Standing up for doing what is best for our country or .....eureka!...the constitution is a detriment. I think we have played nice far too long.
