Speaking of fish, something stinks about this. IF, and I do mean IF, the NK fired a fish, this raises all kinds of issues. Did we not tail that sub? Did we not know? Did we not get permission to fire? Was that request delayed or denied? wow. Mind boggling. I know those systems backwards and forwards. There is no way we couldn’t have know if in the area.
I don’t believe for a minute we put nukes in close proximity to NK home waters/sub pens. Diesel electrics can be very quiet on batteries. They can go in and out of pens underwater/concealed in cliffs all day long. Which one is going to push to the edge and fire a torpedo? No way do we have enough SSNs to keep an ear on them all. SOSUS type listening arrays might hear NK subs in their waters, but so what? It’s an every day thing. The only difference is that this one fired a shot at a SK ship that got close to the line. (A line that is different on NK and SK charts BTW.)
