The Jerusalem Post reports that Dan Shapiro, the U.S. National Security Council's top Middle East adviser, conducted a conference call with American Jewish leaders on Friday to reassure them about the White House's intentions towards Israel. In what I take to be his only honest utterance. Shapiro said that a "resolution" of the episode is close. The resolution, I assume, will be concessions by Netanyahu.

Agreed. I deal with numerous Jewish Americans in L.A. and they are the most self-hating Jews I have ever known. They play along with the Jewish customs, that I witness, yet this is all for nothing when they cannot even accept the fact their own Rat party is the one trying to slice up Israel.

The guess here is that the calls were limited to those known or thought to be friendly to the Obama Administration, like the J Streeters, for example. That's been their pattern in dealing with the American Jewish community from the outset, and it's calculated to minimize dissent.

We're talking about Israel here, and her right to decide how what housing is to be built in her own capital. The "American Jewish leaders" who were called by the White House were carefully selected to minimize resistance. The "American Jewish community" is (1) not monolithic and (2) distinct from Israeli interests. Israeli interests must be generally supported by conservatives for fundamental strategic reasons, regardless of the stupidity of the type of "American Jewish leaders" that the Obamatons choose to deal with.

I’m hopeful that they will contribute to Republican victories this year. I believe that the Orthodox and Conservative (big C) Jewish will be open to voting Democrats out. There is precedent for this.

I've spoken to some of the leaders. They are afraid of speaking up. They fear alienating Obama and the Democrat congress and the donors who don't pay attention. It is a cycle of doom. Only grassroots uprising by Jews can fix it.
