Agreed, and I know that Pershing move that you are talking about. That is all they respect!

I'd guess he was speaking in his first language, which is not English but Pashto, and enjoyed translation by someone not as politically trustworthy as he thought.

"SUBJUNCTIVE (نا خبري) ما کتاب لوستو؟ Subjunctive mood is used to show the speaker’s or the writer’s hopes, wishes or doubts about an event. A verb showing the possibility of an event is also included in this category. Some examples are:...."

Taken from: http://www.mabidkhan.com/pdf_papers/Pashto%20Verb%20General.pdf

I believe that satisfactorily explains how a translator can mistranslate Pashto at will and totally misrepresent the speaker's intent.

Give you an example ~ Karzai might well have said "Well, I might well as have joined the Taliban if that were to have happened". That could be translated as "You do that and I join the Taliban".

The problem here is that many languages, and Pashto is one, like Spanish, chronically use subjunctive mood to avoid offense. English is quite declarative and doesn't care if you are offended because, as it turns out, we English speakers sound so calm and nice as we deliver the most hideous threats.

I'd like to see the text in Pashto and English to see if one of the 25,000 Afghans who live within 5 miles of me can provide advice on the real meaning of the discussion.

Remember, it's not beyond belief that the Obama regime would misrepresent what Karzai said in order to stab him in the back. That's the Chicago Way!

Read my comment on translating Pashto first. We don’t know that Karzai said anything like what is claimed here.

Downplaying what, exactly? Perhaps you should read muawiyah’s very informative post #22.

You will learn to use subjunctive mood yet or they'll be chopping off your head first chance they get.

We don't know what Karzai actually said. We have only the representation of local politicians and many Afghans are known to lie in a never ending stream.

Yea OK, the Afghan lawmakers are wrong, and “moderate” Islam is coming to the rescue.

Pashto is a language designed to tell lies and, presumably, get away with it.

It was a good match for the Silk Road!

OK, Karzai who was mad that Pakistan arrested the Taliban #2, is our ally, and the lawmakers are wrong.

Here is a clue, “moderate” Islam is not coming to the rescue, and Afghanistan will always be an Islamic sewer.

Maybe Muawiyah know better than this guy...

“He said that ‘if I come under foreign pressure, I might join the Taliban’,” said Farooq Marenai, who represents the eastern province of Nangarhar.

or this.....

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said reports Karzai threatened to abandon the political process and join the Taliban insurgency if he continued to receive pressure from Western backers to reform his government are troubling.

“On behalf of the American people, we’re frustrated with the remarks,” Gibbs told reporters.

Talk about reaching, and the Afghan lawmaker that was quoted is not part of the Obama regime.

There's no such thing as "moderate" Islam. You are either Shia, or Sunni, or you live in the Indonesian archipelago ~ which is a special case.

At the same time everybody in Afghanistan is Moslem ~ officially.

All your neighbors believe you're Moslem anyway.

Then, when you get to America you start planting family ashes in a stone circle in the front yard, painting eyeballs on the eve of the home facing the street, or posting a mezuzah (Hebrew: מְזוּזָה‎ "doorpost") on the doorpost at the front of your house.

Best one I've seen is really Ice Age ~ you mark the bounds of your property with stones at the corners, and make sure you mark the entry with two special stones. There are people of European descent who also do that ~ these are NOT fences.

Nestorian Christianity blew through Afghanistan once, as did Zen Buddhism, Taoism, and Hinduism. Judaism also passed up and down the Silk Road for centuries.

Afghans have all agreed to claim they are Moslems so no one questions them regarding whatever else they do.

The Taliban are not part of the deal and that makes them particularly dangerous.

I’m sorry, I don’t believe Gibbs. It’s not possible for that man to tell the truth. Do not let him mislead you.

Why did you ignore the quote from the Afghan lawmaker? It appears that you only want to see, what you want.

“All your neighbors believe you’re Moslem anyway.”

Lol! You got that right, they think that they own the place.

Don't count on some Afghan member of parliament not being part of the Obama regime.

The corruption in that country is endemic and extends into every part of life ~ it's not just a handful of irregular contracts here and there. Telling Karzai to clean up the corruption is a declaration of war against that culture and it's biological survival.

Just the way it is.

Obama knows these things, and some day we will have a government willing to direct Chicago to clean up its act, and the response will be the same ~ and we'll simply have to nuke Chicago!

Why did I ignore what?

I said I want to see the text in Pasto.

If they haven't got that then we don't know what he said.

This is hearsay.

Karzai seemed to be doing a good job before Barry and Hillary Clinton started constantly undermining him. Barry is alienating leaders all around the world.

Oaf-bama and Co. have been on a relentless campaign to depose Karzai and install their preference, an actual puppet not a duly-elected sovereign leader. Let's not cooperate with the democraps, okay?

White House troubled by Karzai remarks

Here's the real scoop:

"Obama visited Karzai in Kabul last week during his first visit to Afghanistan since he took office 15 months ago. Days later, Karzai accused foreigners of perpetrating election fraud, bribing officials and trying to weaken his government, prompting Washington to ask him for clarification about his comments."
