No, he was not a TA; a TA is usually a graduate student working on an advanced degree as you know. I was one once also. You are right about the pittance. However, Obama had the required degree to teach law school. He was hired as an adjunct professor (or whatever the law school calls their adjuncts. It could be adjunct instructor, adjunct assistant professor etc.
He was a lecturer. Sort of an academic day laborer.
The law department didn’t want him as a professor or lecturer but were told to find him a job by the board.
